Last week residents across the area completed home painting, roofing, siding, and yard work. Harry Adams tested a tire changer in his DX garage while several families reported fresh coatings, primers, and new sidewalks. The Grant Go-Getters 4-H club held a July 8 meeting with plans for livestock judging and a veterinary visit. Sunday visits celebrated the 16th birthdays of Carroll and Darrell Day.

Observed silver wedding anniversary honors Janssen couple
Mr. and Mrs. John Janssen of Huron South Dakota observed their silver wedding day on Sunday July 7 at the Farmers Union Building. They are former residents with eight children including John Jr. in Fairbanks Alaska and Elwin in Japan. Shirley married July 1 with Robert Janssen and Mrs. Amel Limberg in attendance. Many relatives from area towns joined the celebration at a large gathering.

Heitland Van Hove Exchange Vows at Buffalo Center
Leona Mae Heitland and Henry Carroll Van Hove wed Friday July 5 at 8 p.m. in First Congregational Church Buffalo Center. Rev John D Engels officiated before white mums red roses and seven branch candelabra. Miss Heitland wore a rose point lace gown with ivory tulle. attendants in blue gowns. Reception for 250 followed in church parlors.

Rex Allen to Bring Koko to Iowa State Fair Rodeo
Rex Allen, TV and film singing cowboy star, will perform at the Iowa State Fair rodeo from August 39 to September 1 with his quarter horse Koko and a singing group. Officials note Allen has 225 song recordings and 31 films, predicting strong crowd appeal for the rodeo show.

Jordal-Honken Softball Team Keeps League Lead
The Jordal-Honken softball club extended its league lead with two straight wins. July 5 saw the Creamery defeat Jensvold 14 4 as Alf Heitland and Alvin Winter pitched. In the close 12 11 win for the Coops, Hanken and Letcher won with Jim Heyer catching. Bud's homer aided the victory. The Co-ops then edged the Creamery 5 4 on Monday with Risius and Meyer on the mound, while Heitland and Hofbauer starred for the Creamery. Jordal-Honken beat Jensvold 9 4 with Hanken and Letcher again pitching. Kettwick had a 3 for 3 with a double, a triple, and a homer. Jensvold’s Feldick and Husome were the battery. Buffalo Center girls meet Lakota Friday July 12. two men’s games tonight. Standings show Jordal-Hanken 12 2 0 0.833, Coops 12 8 4 0.666, Creamery 12 4 8 0.833, Jensvolds 12 2 10 0.167.
