Past No. 21 of the American Legion hosts a Friday fish feed offering walleye fillets potatoes coffee and free will offerings to cover expenses. A lake near Hanska Minnesota yesterday hosted an ice fishing contest with Larry and Ron Yahnke chasing a top prize portable ice house and a $25 rod and reel, won by a two and three-eighths ounce perch. Editor notes a new Tribune series on local people highlighting Arnold Frerichs, now in his first year as Buffalo Center Volunteer Fire Department chief after two years as assistant chief. Born locally, he served in Korea, married Elizabeth Thompson in 1952, and has two children Glen and Diane. He has worked 74 years as grocery manager at Wilson Super Valu.
At the January 14 meeting the American Legion conducted Post Everlasting rites for five deceased members since June 1964. Commander Dean Sunde led prayers, and the history records of Jerry Ukena, Walter Leslie, Walter Rosenau, Harold Becker, and Edger Ricks were read and burned in a trench-helmet brazier. A moment of silence followed, then plans for a Winnshago County Legion and Auxiliary meeting, the Walleye Fish Fry, and various logistics for fish prep, meals, and table setup were announced. Attendance and finances were reported, with 203 members paid for 1965 and a cash balance of $202.95.
Winnebago County residents exceed the 1964 quota for Series E and H savings bonds with $720,211 in eleven months, reaching 104 percent of the goal. November sales totaled $51,353 as part of statewide progress. Iowa's eleven month total stands at $102,958,368 or 90 percent. County volunteers and state officials praise the effort and look to 1965 for continued success.

At the annual stockholders meeting on Wednesday afternoon officers were replaced and re elected. Henry Krull replaced A O Milbrandt and John Feldick along with Herm Hartman were re elected. The Buffalo Center High School cagers lost 25 to 21 at Britt. Assessors for Buffalo Center area discussed assessing problems with County Auditor Oscar Narum.
Mr. and Mrs. Otto Engelbarts of Lakota will be honored by family on their 45th wedding anniversary at an open house Sunday January 24 from 9 to 2:30 PM at St Pauls Lutheran Parish Hall Lakota. They have four sons Elmer Melvin Chris and Paul. No gifts requested. Belated Christmas gathering noted at Roy Hum home with Lyle Hum Ogren Hildebrand families.
