Farmers Bank Pays Dividend 5 Percent First Of Week

On Thursday evening December 29 the Past Worthy Matrons of the O E entertained their husbands at Hotel Buffalo with a 6:30 dinner by Mrs. Hunter. The group enjoyed refreshments, bridge, and decor of blue crepe and silver ornaments. twenty three guests attended and praised the Hunters for a happy evening.

Margaret Tiedens and Mrs Henry Asmus of Rake were dismissed Tuesday after major operations and treatments. Mrs J B Ukena of Lakota was admitted Saturday for treatment while Nerlyn Torkelson and Tony Geiken were admitted Monday for major operations. Corn Display Show Highlights Farm Crops Class

Members of the Farm Crops Class each selected a ten car sample of corn for class work and competed by a grading system. John Knutson won best sample with James Murray Jim Rhode and Glenn Gilbert close behind. Students will display their corns in local businesses for a week and one ear may be showcased as a freak ear with unusual curved rows.

In Henryetta Oklahoma Reverend Horace L James of the First Baptist Church used newspaper ads to draw larger crowds. Ads urged 200 adults for Sunday School, warned of lost youths, and claimed lambs and sheep strayed from services. Attendance rose after publication, surpassing prior Sundays.

Funeral Services For Oltman Akkerman Held Tuesday

Funeral services for Oltman Akkerman, a prominent farmer, were held Tuesday at the local Congregational church, with a large crowd of relatives and friends attending. Interment followed at Graceland Cemetery. Born February 7, 1886 in Holland Iowa, he lived in Winnebago County most of his life and died December 20, 1938, at age 52. He married Gertie Smith in 1907 and left five daughters, his wife, three sisters, and five brothers. Numerous relatives and attendees from nearby towns joined the service, with pallbearers named Ed Feldick, Roy Leibrand, Hieko Adams, Conrad Schmidt, August Milbrandt, and Andrew Harringa.
