Buffalo Center students win speech contest ratings
In Lakota, Buffalo Center High School students JoAnn Steffensen and Clarice Wessels earned first ratings in Radio Speaking and Interpretive Speaking while the one act play Coming Round the Mountain also secured a first rating. A rabbit fry featured 140 rabbits prepared with baked potatoes coffee and pickles with VFW support.

Two-Day Child Welfare Clinic Noted in City Hall
Forty years ago a two-day Child Welfare Clinic was held in City Hall under Dr. Gerkin and Miss Campbell with a full schedule of 26 children each day. Neighbors hosted farewell parties for the Tulps and Dorenbushs as they move to new farms, and local residents shared news of visiting relatives and neighbors.

Seventeen members attended the V P W Auxiliary to Post 4824 meeting at the Post Home February 7. Helen Weaver won the door prize. The Bloodmobile is to visit Buffalo Center February 23 with coffee duties by the Auxiliary. A $20 contribution to U B C Viet Nam was approved, and $10 to the Banner Fund. A curtain-purchasing committee was formed. Next meeting March 7 with hostesses listed.

Leonard Harmon and wife visited from Friday to Monday with their son Gregory a State University of Iowa student. Glady Opheim joined to meet her son Dennis a UNI student. the group then traveled to Rock Island to see George Opheim a Augustana University teacher. Harmon and Opheim returned home Monday afternoon. A washer by any other name is not a Maying Leibrands.
