Funeral Services Saturday For Mrs Joe Gries
Funeral services for Mrs. Joe Gries formerly Mrs. Joe le Honken were held Saturday afternoon February 11 at 1 30 pm in the Presbyterian church at Thompson with Rev Elles Alland officiating. Interment was in Gowland cemetery at Buffalo Center. Alice Bertha Bicker, born November 6 1881 near Pears City Illinois, married John Hanken in 1903 in Illinois and later moved to Buffalo Center. She died February 8 1961 after illness, survived by husband Joe Gries four sons Harry Ralph and John Honken and Hazel Peterson Rockwell Iowa one sister Mrs Ben Ul of Lena and several nieces and nephews. She was a member of the local church and loved worship service.

Three Hurt In Buffalo Center Car Crash
A two car crash on a rural road near Buffalo Center at about 5:30 pm Sunday injured three people. James and Arnold occupants of one car were treated. Arnold hospitalized with bruises and contusions. Alvin Steck of the other car was treated for injuries at Britt Hospital. both cars suffered extensive damage.

Mrs. Frank Banta Dies Funeral at Buffalo Center
Mrs. Frank Banta who died February 10 in Mason City was 73. Born November 15, 1887 in Lincoln Illinois, she moved to Iowa as a child and married Frank Banta December 19, 1907. Survived by her husband six daughters one son 17 grandchildren 14 great grandchildren three sisters and other relatives. Funeral services were held February 13 at the Buffalo Center Methodist Church with burial in Graceland Cemetery.

They will sponsor the Poppy Poster Contest with prizes and plan the annual rummage sale in April. Ethel Anderson presented an Americanism program and Mrs Patterson led Back To God with scripture readings and an article on Abraham Lincoln.

Sheriffs Back Photo Driver's Licenses and $1 Gun Permit Fee
The Iowa State Sheriffs Association fully backs a legislative plan requiring photographs on all drivers licenses and supports a $1 fee on gun permits. Officials said photo IDs would improve positive identification and curb improper use for alcohol purchases and lending licenses to unlicensed drivers. The gun permit fee would aid office costs, with issuance remaining at the sheriff's discretion and not charged to peace officers.

Fire Damages Hog House at Zingg Brothers Farm
Rufus Oltoff, buyer of the Zingg Brothers farm, was cutting brush when sparks from a burning pile ignited a hog house roof. Buffalo Center firefighters arrived around 11 30 a m and stopped the blaze but the north end and roof suffered severe damage. The building housed fertilizer and was flooded with water. Oltoff bought the farm at auction on November 12 1960.

Polio Fund Drive Totals Reach $92 in Buffalo Township
Buffalo Township raised 92.50 dollars in the National Foundation Drive chaired by Jack Steinberg. Workers included Herbert Beenken Lloyd Kiewier Edward Hippen and several spouses. Steinberg thanks canvassers and residents for time and generosity as guests from Parkersburg stayed with local hosts over Friday night and Saturday.

Aerator Installed at City Well Project Under Way
Work to install an aerator and detention tank at the town’s new pump house began Tuesday morning. The system oxidizes iron and removes odors before filtration. General Filter Company of Ames supplied equipment. cost is 4975 dollars. Leonard Hines and Ray Cruse are completing the installation, expected to finish Friday.

Pickup and car collide at Main Street intersection
At about 8 45 am Saturday a pickup driven west on Highway No 9 turned onto Main Street as a Buick driven east by Adeanna Blum collided with the right front of the pickup causing about 1200 in damage. Ministerial Association Plans Good Friday Easter Services
The Buffalo Center Ministerial Association met to organize the Good Friday and Easter Sunrise Worship. Plans place the Good Friday service at the public school auditorium at 8:00 p.m. Friday March 31 with Rev. G W Gerthe speaking.
