The Better Vision Institute reports firms cutting accidents and costs after eye exams and corrective measures for workers. One firm dropped accidents from 17 in 1% years to two in 18 months after correcting vision defects. A driver with three early accidents had his vision corrected and then achieved a flawless record.
University of Illinois researchers William H. Welker and Lawrence H. Mann report an antiserum that reacts with cancer patient serum but not with healthy or non cancerous illness serum. They caution it is not a cure or treatment, only a step forward, pending extensive testing. The team found organ specific and species specific reactions, including no cross reaction with cancerous animals’ sera.
The death of Mrs Mary Anna Wherland in Fresno California leaves a family of 1086 dolls she collected for 40 years. The display filled 30 showcases featuring dolls of many sizes and nationalities from around the world. The collection moves to her daughter in Eugene Oregon as a new home is found for the cherished trove.
Public safety officials of the National Automobile club urge motorists to switch on headlights one half hour after sunset and during poor visibility. They note 330 fatal and 7,660 nonfatal U.S. crashes last year involved vehicles with headlights out, and say such lights could have prevented many injuries and saved lives.
Dr. C Charles Burlingame of Connecticut, a pioneer in mental treatment, says improving the abuse of alcohol, faulty schooling, and the narrowing of productive time are the era’s key issues for medicine, psychiatry, and modern science. He links mental weakness to mis education and argues for selective college education and the removal of alcohol from social problem categories.
A vehicle piloted by C M Peterson veered to the opposite side of a Waukon street and plowed into a building after nearly missing a display window, with onlookers noting the dramatic misplacement and a man named Charles Kaeser sustaining injuries from the incident.

In district court the instrument purporting to be the last will and testament of F. J. Raddle, deceased, dated April 26, 1935, has been filed opened and read this day, notifying all persons concerned to appear and contest as required by law.
The 26 day of February 1941 is fixed for hearing proof at the Court House Forest City before the District Court or Clerk at 2:00 P M. All interested persons must appear and show cause why the instrument should not be probated as the last will and testament of the deceased. Dated Forest City Iowa January 25 1941.
