Soil Conservation News reports on subsoil terrace projects in northeast Iowa begun after 1960 construction. Trials in 1961 compare 160 80 8 fertilizer with checks and manure plus starter, showing marked yield gains over unfertilized plots. Starter alone delayed benefits. deeper cuts rarely changed yields. zinc deficiency noted at one site.
Community projects include ceiling repairs at two rooms by Don Carson and Larry Costigan, and exterior updates at Roy’s Leather Store. At a fertilizer blending plant a 40 foot tower and reinforced walls are under construction, with Bud Olson as contractor. A new Chevrolet 60 truck joins the Cooperative Farmers Elevator fleet. Field trials discuss how high fertilizer rates on subsoil boost corn yields after terrace construction, noting rainfall and timing impact germination and emergence.
Across Britt Memorial Mason City Park Hospital and North Memorial Hospital Minneapolis relatives report surgical recoveries and ongoing care. Kenneth Brown and Lewis Feldick receive well wishes as Dr Dolmage and Mrs Dolmage near steady recoveries. Golden wedding anniversary for Rode family with open house planned.
