Northwood Five Too Strong For Bison In Friday Clash
Northwood visited town last Friday as the varsity team defeated the Bison 52 to 46 while freshmen sophomores lost 24 to 21. Olson led the Northwood attack with 12 of 25 first game points, Heyer and Punk Winter led the Bison with 14 each. A Lake Mills game was canceled by a storm and rescheduled. Garner comes Friday with both teams and February 16 the locals meet the Bulldogs at Britt.

VFW Five Win Five Enter League Playoff March First
The VFW Warriors defeated Lake Mills 72 to 45 at home on January 31 in North Iowa VFW League play. Risius and Dontje led with 20 and 21 points as Elmore Merchants edged the visitors 50-45 in the season finale. Playoffs set for March 1-2 with a 6-4 league mark and a three way race for first place among Lake Mills Island and Northwood.

National REA Meeting Attended by Winnebago Directors
Winnebago REA directors Gustafson Rugh and Aykes from Forest City Lake Mills and Buffalo Center with Manager Bergland Attorney Weible and Lineman Elwood attended the National Rural Electric Cooperatives Association meeting in Cleveland Ohio January 28. Over 4 000 people were present and group conferences discussed power generation maintenance defense allocations rates and legislation. The local group held intermingling with REA telephone staff regarding loan documents materials contracts and engineering for the Winnebago Cooperative Telephone Association. REA officials anticipate slower progress than before the defense emergency but shared strong interest in theWinnebago association as a model for others nationwide.

Two Car Crashes Reported Near Leland and Forest City
Sheriff reports two wrecks with no serious injuries. John E. Harrod, 24, of Ingalls Arkansas, injured in a 1939 Pontiac collision at the junction of highways 9 and 69 north of Leland. he spent a night at Forest City Hospital and was released. Joel Charles Holland of Thompson drove a 1949 Ford truck damaged in the front. In the second crash Ray Haugen of Forest City lost control of a 1949 Oldsmobile near a cemetery on highway 69, crashing into trees and four telephone poles. Haugen and Morris Olson, riding with him, were treated and released the next day.
