The grading and graveling contract for the eight mile Buffalo Center Woden road was let to Frank Eblen and Sons of Atlantic Iowa by the State Highway Commission and Winnebago Board of Supervisors in Ames. It covers removing 131 226 cubic yards of dirt and graveling 1500 yards per mile at 175 cents per cubic yard, with work to start by June 1 1946 and finish by October 1 1946, including grading bridging and graveling. cleaning and grubbing to be done by the county.
The B B Bruhns celebrate their twenty fifth wedding anniversary on Saturday February 2 with daughter Dorothy Fern visiting from Central College Pella and a reception of hymns talk and gifts. Relatives and friends gather including Rev H F Senne Mr and Mrs John Bruhns and many Bruhns family members as a three tier pink and silver cake marks the day.
Betty Hauskins daughter of Mr and Mrs Adrian Hauskins married Ray Aukes son of Mr and Mrs R E Aukes of Buffalo Center. The Rev F L Hascom performed the double ring ceremony at the Little Brown church near Nashua Iowa on Tuesday January 22. The couple will reside on a Thompson Iowa area farm after March 1. The bride wore a gold suit with black accessories and the groom a brown suit. The bridal party included Thelma Frandle cousin of the bride and Donald Aukes brother of the groom who wore corsages of rose buds. A shower was held at Zion Lutheran church parlors with many useful gifts.
Grover Chryst is the new postmaster at Forest City taking over duties Monday January 28. He has served as assistant postmaster since November 1911, filling the vacancy created by W. R. Fleming's resignation.
The Grant No 4 pupils and teacher present a school carnival on Friday February 15. Lunches will be served. The event is located four miles south of Buffalo Center on the Mill Road. Public invited by Alta Thompson teacher. Try a Tribune Want Ad for results.
Funeral services for Mrs. Frank Rhitbee Sr were held at the Methodist church in Buffalo Center on January 31 1946. Burial followed in Olena Mound cemetery. Anna Benda born April 20 1870 in Toledo Iowa died January 28 1946 at 75 9 8. She married Frank Rhubee April 15 1889. They lived in Coon Rapids farmed then moved to Buffalo Center in 1918 and later bought a home in 1938. She was active in the Methodist church and W S C S. Survived by husband eleven children twenty one grandchildren twelve great grandchildren two sisters two half sisters and five half brothers with many relatives and friends. Out of town relatives listed include Don Smouse Glen Curtis Floyd Danger Albert Rhubee Henry Lengerman and Dallas, Fred Severson and Hermes, Robert Miller, Royal Armstrong, Gerald Rhubee, and Lawrence Wirtjes.

The Ade Austin farm sale, postponed to Friday February 8, will begin at 1 o'clock. The farm lies one mile west and two and a half miles south of Thompson. Auctioneers are R. T. DeVries and Son.
Funeral services for Donald K. Loos, born April 6 1928 in Sherburn Minnesota, were held January 29 at Schutter funeral home and St Matthews Lutheran Church Stevens Iowa. He died January 26 at Forbes Hospital Swea City after illness. Survivors include his parents six sisters and five brothers with many relatives.
Mrs Roland Jutting and baby son were dismissed Thursday. Mrs Geo Sachau of Titonka was dismissed Thursday after a minor operation. Mrs B J Devine of Woden admitted Wednesday for minor surgery and dismissed Thursday. Mrs F E Letcher and infant son of Thompson were dismissed at the Albert Becker hospital in Lakota after a dismissal Saturday and taken to Rochester Minnesota. Miss Emerelda Kruse admitted Saturday for a minor operation and dismissed Sunday. A son weighing 9 pounds 13 ounces was born Monday February 4 to Mr and Mrs Carroll Howe named Eugene Lynn. A son weighing nine pounds four ounces born Sunday Feb 3 to Mr and Mrs Marvin Hassebroeck named Dennis Lee. Mrs H A Kiewier and baby son dismissed Sunday. Paul Bierstedt of Lakota dismissed Sunday after a major operation.
Mr. C. E. Judd was elected Winnebago County Extension Director by the Board at Thompson on Tuesday afternoon February 5. Approval by the Board of Education is pending. Judd served two years as Lt. (sgt) in the Pacific and previously led extension work in Wayne and Boone counties. He starts February 16 with his family moving to Thompson once housing is found.
Funeral services were held Tuesday for John W. Halvorson of Thompson a school bus driver who died after a stroke suffered at a basketball game Saturday night. He had transported Thompson basketball players and students to the game and collapsed during the first quarter at the Rake and Lake Mills match. He died soon after reaching Dalmage hospital. Survived by wife and three children.
Buffalo Center Bison capture the Winnebago County Class A crown by beating Forest City in a tight final. The Bison led most of the game, with Forest City briefly grabbing a one point edge, and built a ten point lead late before Forest City closed the gap. Coach Odell Forslund praised for guiding a cohesive unit, as all players contributed. The Bison previously topped Thompson A 49 to 17. Forest City A defeated Lake Mills A 34 to 25 to reach the final. Class B saw Rake upset Lake Mills B 48 to 24, after Lake Mills B earlier beat Thompson B 62 to 21 and Rake defeated Scarville 39 to 22. All sessions drew strong crowds.
Winnebago Post No 21 will hold its regular meeting tonight in the Post room with Vice Commander Charles Becker in charge due to Ted Betels absence. Dads Night Party committee reports urged. Members extend sympathy to Elmer Rhubee on his mother’s passing. Other notes include Herb Patterson’s gradual recovery, Seibert Claassen back to work, and two more members returning to civilian jobs. Membership hits 126 with Russell Kingsbury as new member No 126. Christ Hogard attends Bancroft blacksmiths’ meeting. thanks extended for County Basketball tournament support.

The Lutheran Welfare Society of Iowa North Central Branch will hold its annual meeting on Tuesday February 12 at 2 p m at Our Saviors Lutheran church in Leland. Rev Arthur Feroe pastor and Rev L A Segert will address the gathering. officers will be elected and reports on welfare activity in Iowa will be presented by George Westby. Refreshments will be served by local Ladies Aids. The society works to place homeless boys and girls in homes across the state.
