Conference Scores From North and Lake Mills Show Mixed Results

High school basketball results reveal Center and Forest City in a North Conference Friday action. Center defeated Britt 32 to 15, while Forest City lost to Le Dake. Lake Mills beat Belmond 80 to 19, boosting Belmond’s record as the Broncos next host Friday night.

Auxiliary notes program at City Hall on Jan 27

The local Auxiliary unit hosted a program at City Hall featuring piano solo by Mrs Duhel Win, a winding by Mrs Dorothea Rhoie, and a talk by Rev N Boomgaarden. The group sang two verses of America at the close. Absence of unit president Art Louise Tohlbach noted thanks to helpers.

Shower honors Miss Elsie De Vries at Albert Blepsr

A mixed group of about thirty ladies attended a miscellaneous shower Thursday evening at the Albert Blepsr. The event celebrated Miss Elsie De Vries who received many beautiful and useful gifts. The gathering featured light refreshments and warm toasts, described as very enjoyable by attendees.

Farm Bureau 10 plans a Saturday meeting at Thompson with county officers and 15 000 Farm Bureau members to discuss agricul tural policy. Remembering Daniel Claassen Death of Daniel Claassen in Buffalo Center

Daniel Claassen born 1857 in Ostfriesland Germany lost both parents and two brothers in youth. He married Jurke Reinders in 1883, had a daughter Catherine, moved to America in 1885, and later remarried Fenke Bloem with ten children. He died January 25, 1936, aged 78 years, 10 months, and 23 days, with funeral held January 20 at the Reformed Church. He left a large family and many relatives in Iowa and Montana.

Postponed Buffalo Center Creamery Meeting and Exams

The national meeting of the Buffalo Center Co operative Creamery was postponed due to bad water and rescheduled for Wednesday the 12th at City Hall with a luncheon at 11. Eighth grade examinations are postponed to Friday due to unsettled weather. Belmond high school basketball faces Buffalo Center high school tomorrow evening.

Dorenbush Family Exits Farm Life in Buffalo Center

John Dorenbush born December 13 1855 in Ostfriesland Germany married Marjorie Boyenga in 1881. The couple migrated to Grundy County Iowa then Buffalo Center moving to the Dorenbush farm west of town. After a long life of farming he died January 29 at age 81 with many children and grandchildren surviving.

Kossuth Conservation League Eyeing National Model

I. D. Lowe of Algona represents Kossuth County at the North American Wildlife Conference in Washington D C February 8 to 7. The Kossuth County Conservation League plans a county unit based national setup, aiming to show a nationwide conservation organization. The Algona unit sent a letter from Henry P Davis of the American Wildlife Institute praising the league’s plan as a foremost approach to county based game restoration.

Koppen Elected President Of Business Men's Club 1936

J C Koppen was elected President of the Business Men's Club for 1936 at a regular meeting held at Hotel Buffalo last Monday evening. C G Schmidt was chosen Vice President and T R M Bolsinger was elected Secretary Treasurer. Retiring officers were J B Smith, R T DeVries, and D W Zalger. The club discussed pheasant relief work and urged cooperation with the local Legion Post to build shelter and feeding stations for wildlife hit hard by ice. Ted A Weaver Jerry Schoor and Nelmer Matson were named by the Legion to proceed with the project. The club will meet again Monday evening February 17 at the Commercial Hotel at 7.

Winnebago County 4H girls adopt new year with home efficiency study led by Iowa State College Extension. January meeting covered storage in bedrooms and business centers, lighting, health and overall efficiency. Enrollment urged for ages 12 to 21. Vegetable Growers Convention to Meet in Forest City

The eighth annual convention of vegetable growers from northern Iowa and southern Minnesota will be held February 20 and 21 at the Forest City Crust House under the Iowa State Vegetable Growers Association and multiple sponsors. Highlights include a $115 in prizes, a potato peel contest judged by men, seed potato cutting, displays of sprayers and farming machinery, and a banquet with Tom Boynton as toastmaster. Officers and participants from multiple counties and organizations will attend.
