Three Games Remain On NIC Schedule

North Iowa Conference race tightens as Buffalo Center Bison hold a two game lead. The schedule runs February 4 at Forest City vs Hegles, February 8 at Forest City vs Indianas, and February 11 hosting Osage, with Forest City aiming to derail the Bison and Northwood challenging for the crown.

Morningside Band to Perform in Minnesota Schools

The Morningside College Wind Ensemble from Sioux City Iowa tours southern Minnesota and northeastern Wisconsin with a mid winter run January 1 through February 8. The 52 piece group directed by John R Lindenau will present a joint program at a local school February 7 at 1 PM then at Bancroft Center and Jasper Minnesota venues. The public is invited.

Banquet planned for Blue and Gold Cub Scouts

Cub Scout Pack No 48 of the Tanebago Council in Buffalo Center plans the Blue and Gold Banquet at Bethlehem Lutheran Church on Wednesday February 16 to mark the 68th Boy Scout anniversary with awards, a derby car contest, and a display of show cars. Uniform Day is February 8 and Boy Scout Sunday February 19 with Scouts attending church services.

FFA Donates Name Panels to Local High School

The Buffalo Center WEA FFA chapter donated basketball player panels to the local high school. Panels list names and numbers for home and visiting teams and were used in Thompson Belmond and Northwood games. Cost $185 funded by fruit sales with top sellers Steffensen Coden Heyer Biorle and Murray.

Lennox Dealer Meeting in Marshalltown Draws 1500 Attendees

More than 1,500 Lennox dealers, employees, and wives gathered in Marshalltown to hear President John Norris stress quality control and the Total Comfort System. Ronnie Oleson resigns from Coop to join State Farm

Ronnie Oleson, longtime L P gas serviceman at Coop Oil, resigns effective February 1 to become State Farm agent for Winnebago County, replacing Tom Shawhan. Fifty-Two Students Earn Places On School Honor Roll

Buffalo Center Community High School named fifty two students to the first semester honor roll. About fifteen percent of the junior and senior class earned the distinction. Legion Fish Fry Draws Large Crowd at City Hall

Despite minus 20 conditions, about 400 people attended the Legion's annual walleye fillet and baked potato feed at City Hall Friday evening. Propane-fired vats sped service, donations will limit losses to around $60, with proceeds supporting public projects. The event continues the Legion Post's practice of thanking supporters with a motto, Hat all you want Pay as you wish.

Corn Production Talk At Night School

An adult farmer meeting in the Buffalo Center Vocational Ag department will discuss Corn Production on Wednesday February 9 at 7 30 pm. Topics include corn variety selection for 1966 high population planting narrow versus conventional rows planting depth timing nutrient uptake and other items of interest. Bosma Completes Communications Course At Goodfellow AFB

Airman Second Class Dennis D. Bosma son of Mr and Mrs Ed Bosma of Buffalo Center has completed a U S Air Force course at Goodfellow AFB Texas for communications technicians. He received advanced radio training and is assigned to an Air Force support unit in Europe. A Buffalo Center High School graduate he earned an AA degree from Mason City Junior College and attended Mankato Minnesota State College.

Wessels Appointed Director of Farmers Mutual

Irwin Wessels of Buffalo Center was named director and vice president of the Farmers Mutual Insurance Association of Winnebago County at a January board meeting. He fills the unexpired term of Ole Kringlaak who resigned for health reasons. Wessels, a longtime member, also serves on the County Board of Education. The association says his addition strengthens the board.

Donors Solicited For Upcoming Blood Campaign

The Red Cross plans a blood collection in Winnebag County on Wednesday February 23. Blood chairman Mrs Curt Bashans urges donors to schedule appointments by calling 2-1772 and asks patience if lines are busy. The program provides whole blood for county residents and urges communal support by donating a pint.

Record Free Fall Attempt Ends Here

Nick Piantanida failed Wednesday afternoon to free fall 22 miles from 122000 feet in Project Strata Jump. The gondola landed in a corn field near Buffalo Center after detaching from the oxygen system. Piantanida and his crew reported medical concerns and the mission was aborted.

Injured Hunter LeRoy Hinz Hospitalized in Iowa Farm Accident

LeRoy Hinz, 15, was wounded by a .22 ricochet while rabbit hunting on Walter Ankes’ farm near Buffalo Center. The bullet fractured his teeth and lodged in his neck but doctors chose not to remove it. He remains in good condition at Buffalo Center Hospital. His friend Paul Aukes alerted his parents and accompanied Hinz to the hospital.
