DeVries Appointed Supervisor to Fill Vacancy

R T DeVries Sr of Buffalo Center was appointed supervisor of District No 3 in Winnebago County to fill the term of the late John Huber who died early Wednesday. Huber, elected last November, would have begun a three year term January 1, 1951. DeVries’ appointment is for the same period. Appointment followed state law and came after recommendation by George A Carman Republican committeeman for Buffalo township. DeVries previously served as district supervisor for several years.

Hospital Notes Christmas Admissions and Births Record

Hospital notes list numerous admissions and dismissals around December 20 to 27, including J J Guyer and Jane Hum admitted, Jean Levins and Lester Gray dismissed after major surgery, and births like a daughter to Mr and Mrs Francis times. Many 2-¢ Registrants Placed In 1-A

The Winnebago County Local Board in Forest City classified registrants with many 2-C cases moved to 1-A. A meeting at the Forest City courthouse is set for January 4 at 1 30 P M for applicants to discuss their classifications. An adjusted January induction call now seeks six men for departure on January 16.

Legion Fish Fry Moved To Friday January Sth

The ci hall and kitchen unavail Thursday evening prompts the Legion to shift its big fish fry to Friday night January 5. All you can eat fish steaks baked potatoes and trim mings. Men and boys only. State Commander Robert H. Bush of Des Moines may speak when the Post hosts other Winnebago County Posts and Auxiliaries on January 18. Musical numbers will be provided by local groups. Family heads west to Rose Bowl game in Pasadena

Mr and Mrs Harry Honken and Mr and Mrs Hardy Jordal depart early Tuesday for the Rose Bowl clash of Michigan and California in Pasadena. On January 1 they will visit Mrs Jordals sister Mrs Drue Seckest in Los Angeles before returning. The notice also promotes the Whirlpool Automatic Washer from John and Jerry.

Christmas fun as Santa tours city streets

Hundreds of children in our city crowded the Saturday activities with Santa Claus in the Iowa Theatre area. Two showings at 1 30 and 3 00 drew about 350 youngsters per screening as Dagwood Blondie and cartoons played. Santa and helpers distributed fruit candy and nuts while parents shopped safely in nearby stores.

John Huber Died Suddenly at 72 in Buffalo Center

John Huber longtime supervisor for Winnebago County's third district died suddenly from a heart attack Wednesday morning at his home. He was 72, born near Spillville Iowa and lived in Wesley and Buffalo Center. Funeral services are set for Saturday at St Patrick's Church with Catholic cemetery interment.

Marriage Licenses Rise in 1950 Count and Divorces

Clerk of the District Court records show 137 marriage licenses issued in 1950, up from 119 in 1949, with nine divorces granted in 1950 versus twenty in 1949. One divorce was granted in the past week, Donald W. Reisetter being granted a divorce from Betty Reinsetter with custody of the minor child. Real estate transfers on file include several county deeds. Car owners paid use tax and registered vehicles in the past week, listing multiple individuals and makes across Forest City, Lake Mills, Thompson, Leland, Buffalo Center, and Woden.

Past Matron's Club Meeting Honor Gift Exchange

The Past Matron's Club met with Mrs. R. T. DeVries Sr. on Thursday with 16 members present. Mrs. J. E. Smith, moving to Emmetsburg, was honored in the roll call and received a gift. No Recount On Kossuth Supervisor

Three judges in Kossuth county refused to recount the supervisor race in the third district. They ruled the official tally would stand as ballots weren’t properly secured and could have been tampered with. Democrat W S Cosgrove held a seven vote edge over Republican John Rode.

Two families head south for warm weather tour

Joe Steenblock Ben Swanson and Mr and Mrs Wayne Berryhill left Wednesday morning December 27 in Steenberg’s car for Fort Worth Texas. The Berryhills will visit their daughter Mr and Mrs Henry Dean while Steenblock and Swanson continue to Brownsville in the citrus and vegetable country. They plan a couple of months driving the south and southwest visiting points of interest. Joe aims to escape the cold and see scenic areas. The Berryhills will also visit their son Dr and Mrs Boyd Berryhill at Big Springs Texas.
