Last Rites Held For Emil Bowman

Emil V. Bowman 88 died at Buffalo Center Hospital the prior Saturday while living with his son George Bowman in Fairmont Minnesota. He fell December 7 injuring his left leg and right hip. Funeral held December 24 at Bethel Free church Fairmont. Survived by eight sons one daughter numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren. The Bowmans and Mrs Anne Gjerstad attended services. The Bowmans work on the Gjerstad farm.

Lincoln Homemakers Christmas Party in Kossuth County

The Lincoln Homemakers of Kossuth County held their December 13 meeting at Mrs. Steve Tjaden’s home. Twelve members shared Christmas card display ideas, reviewed next year’s program, and discussed more lessons to engage township homemakers. A pot-luck lunch followed a gift exchange of handmade items. The next gathering will be an all day event at Mrs. Louis Wingert’s home with Yeast Breads lesson on January 18.

Radiology Technician Graduates At St Josephs Mercy

Mrs Loran Aykes daughter of Mr and Mrs C B Egesdal will graduate from St Josephs Mercy hospital Mason City as a radiology technician on Monday evening December 31. A graduation dinner was held Tuesday evening December 18 at the All Vets Club near Clear Lake for Mrs Aukes and Paula Shimo, the other graduate, sponsored by Sister Mary Assumpta and Drs Paul W Morgan H W Morgan and Richard Vine. The Radiology Department staff then held a Christmas party.

Winnebago County 4 H Basketball Tourney Set

The Winnebago County Boys 4 H basketball tournament for 1958 is scheduled for December 27 and 28 at Thompson high school gym. Games will run in junior and senior divisions. 4 H clubs are urged to submit team entries to the extension office promptly to arrange the schedule and game times.

Soldiers Christmas furlough breaks with lost luggage

Pvt Gregory Heitland of Fort Belvoir arrived for a Christmas furlough with his parents Mr and Mrs Joe Heitland. He will report back to camp. His train luggage was lost including clothing and gifts and has not been located. Cedar Walls and Burbank relatives joined in holiday visits at the Heitland family home. Mrs Jake Hofbauer hosted a Christmas gathering with several Hofbauer families and relatives from Ringsted, Spieker, Weaver and Meyers.

A Kossuth County Advance clipping notes the poetry volume by late Raymond Kresensky, once a local teacher, published by Golden Quill Press, with introductory material and tributes from Kantor and others. Iowa's Scottish Highlanders to Play In Rose Bowl

The University of Iowa marching band and Scottish Highlanders will perform in the Rose Bowl in Pasadena on New Year’s Day. Oldsmobile and GM sponsor the trip, recognizing the band’s role in Iowa football success. The band has been led by Frederick C. Ebbs since 1954 and the Highlanders, started by William L. Adamson in 1937, became an all-women group after WWI.

Highlanders Tour Reflects Busy Fall For Iowa Groups

From Los Angeles to Iowa City plans unfold as university alumni sponsor a special train trip. The Marching Band performed at the Indiana feast and the Iowa Pur au game while the Scottish Highlanders opened the conference with Indian. Earlier, they toured Continental Europe and Great Britain on their second kilted coeds trip. Keith Eldon Thom Center filed papers in the county.

Council approves library policies and bills at regular meeting

At the Mayors call the council, with all members present, reviewed two library policies. One covers 1500 dollars yearly. another 4300 dollars for five years. Bills from multiple vendors were approved after discussion, including labor, fuel, gravel, insurance, attorney fees, and library insurance. The council authorized Eugene Sarno as attorney for a town defense and adjourned the meeting.
