A post office at Midway Iowa was broken into in the early morning. A robber secured 70 dollars in cash and 75 dollars in stamps before escaping. A blacksmith was robbed of implements used to blow the safe. no clues are reported.
In Council Bluffs Juror William Burchard of Crescent appeared in Judge W X Green's courtroom under the influence of liquor. He sank into a deep slumber as testimony proceeded. The bailiff woke him and escorted him from the room. Judge Green barred Burchard from the jury for the term and refused to deduct pay for the last day. he did not impose further penalties.
Ottumwa officials voted to eliminate dangerous and objectionable features of football before students can participate with school sanction. The action followed a school board meeting last evening.
Justice Gardiner ruled Nebraska six month remarriage prohibition cannot apply to marriages in Iowa after a criminal case against Mark A. Sweney. Sweney, married in Council Bluffs to Zenelia Ball who had split from A. A. Ball in Omaha less than three months earlier, was the complainant’s ex-husband.

Des Moines December 8 Auditor of State B F Carroll has been summoned to Washington by President Roosevelt. The president plans a conference with heads of state insurance departments and auditors to discuss federal regulation of interstate insurance companies and to learn how state agencies operate. Carroll will depart immediately for the capital.
Waterloo December 9 William McWilliams of Independence pled guilty to killing his wife and five children with a hammer and knife on November 22. Judge Platt sentenced him to hang, noting the crowd in the Independence court room. The execution will be delayed for a year.
Say boy’s teacher caused his death in Des Moines. Dayra Caruthers, 14, son of Bob Carruthers, a former basebal pitcher and umpire, died at home from heart failure after alleged corporal punishment at the public school. Report says the boy had a weak heart unknown to the teacher.
