Halo Center Declam in Wins Two Firsts

On Monday evening December 4 the Buffalo area held the State declamatory contest at Buffalo High School auditorium. Dorothy Rol, Harlin Hansing, Ian Who Laughed, Isaacs, LaVon Terveer and Thomas Snell won top places in dramatic and humorous selections. Winners advance December 15 to the state contest.

WL Teachers Study Center December 16 Meeting

Rural teachers in Obago county gather at Forest City Court House on December 16 at 10 o clock. Speakers include Miss Nettie E Price on essentials in teaching, Mr Frank B Ulish on safety education, and Pro Fullerton on school music. Attendance open to patrons and students.

Pioneer Grothaus Family Thanksgiving Reunion

Nine years after moving Acklay Iowa to a farm near Buffalo Center the Grothaus family kept a Thanksgiving reunion. Attendees included Dr Tarin and husband Dr John Dulin Kithey and son William Dulin and wife Lyn Dulin of Iowa City, Henry C Grothaus and family, many Grothaus and Steinmetz relatives, Dr Wathena and Cecil Moen family, and Patsy NS. A tea breakfast and a birthday cake for the oldest daughter were part of the day events.

Post Meets Tonight Legion Meeting In Feather Party Report

The Feather Party was a success with thanks to helpers and donations from Onno Frerichs who gave three quarts of cream for coffee and D R Snell who donated 50 cents. Auxiliary Notes of Legion Post 21 Meeting Trims Thanksgiving Guests

The Auxiliary of Legion Post No. 21 held a December 4 meeting at Mrs. Ethel Winter’s home with Dorothea Rhode presiding. Reports on finances sewing projects and items sent to an assigned child were given. Plans for a broader apron sale and Christmas gifts were discussed along with sending post cards to a Veteran’s hospital patient in Des Moines. Lunch followed led by Mrs. Winter and Mrs. Claassen. Thanksgiving Day hospitality featured many local families visiting various hosts in Des Moines Belmond Garner Dubuque Lakota Mason City and Ames.

Haselroth to Visit Relatives in Missouri and Kansas City

Mr Wm Haselroth left Tuesday for Jonesburg Missouri to visit his parents and plan to see brothers and sisters in St Louis and Kansas City over about two weeks. Miss Charlotte Kiewier and guest Miss Fay Boyd of Orient spent Thanksgiving with the Kiewier family and other relatives. Mrs Alberts of Willo Lake South Dakota and other families joined in Thanksgiving at the Kramer home in Hopkins Michigan.

Plans for girls club program to be made December 8

Miss Ella Loughran of the state 4 H club staff at Iowa State College will meet Winnebago County 4 H workers on December 8 at Thompson Town Hall. Attendees include all 4 H girls club leaders, assistants, one older 4 H girl from each club, and the county 4 H committee. Plans cover the major home economics project in Food Preservation and related activities from county and individual club perspectives.

Miss Ferleman Attends Mason City Nuptials

Miss Mae Ferleman head nurse at Dolmage hospital traveled to Mason City on Friday for the nuptials of her niece Thora Jeanette Fensman daughter of Mr and Mrs E M Ferleman of Mason City. The wedding to Lloyd Kenneth Ax of Garner Iowa took place at 11 am at St Johns Episcopal Church with Rev C Burnette Whitehead officiating. Chrysanthemums smilax and tapers decorated the church and a reception for about fifty friends and relatives followed at the bride’s home.
