Auxiliary Sends Gifts to Servicemen
The VeP Auxiliary met December 3 for a regular meeting and Christmas party with seven members present. Entertainment included Meredith Johnson singing Santa Claus is Coming to Town, Martha Johnson reciting Santa, Diane DeVries and Patty Steinberg playing Silent Night on piano, and poems read by Bettye and Carol Ankeny. Minutes were read, 46 cans of mixed milk were sent to service members from Buffalo Center, and gifts were exchanged at lunch. The group discussed Polio drive plans for January and announced a Folio film and serving calendar for 1957. A Christmas cookie lunch followed, plus Traveling Bingo and a detailed serving calendar listing members by month.

John B. Moulton a 38 year old from Ledyard was jailed after a Friday night traffic stop near Thompson by a highway patrolman. He is wanted at Spirit Lake Estherville Garner Britt and Blue Earth Minnesota on bad check charges. Bond set at 2000 and he faces grand jury action and further local county court appearances.

Karl Christensen reports the death of his father, Nels Christensen, age 88, at Des Moines on Tuesday November 27. He passed away at the Methodist hospital. Funeral services were held there on Friday. Sherman Tank Memorial Placed on Court House Square
An M4A3 Sherman tank, 40 tons, was placed on the court house square to honor Winnebago County men who died in World War II.
