Rites for Gilbert Silbert Resident Noted in Britt Area

Obituary notes the life of Gilbert Silbert born in Alabama New York who moved with his parents to Wisconsin then Britt Iowa. He farmed many years and joined the Congregational church in Clear Lake before moving to Buffalo Center. Survived by wife Mary Ann and numerous children and grandchildren, his funeral at the Britt Congregational Church was led by Rev. N Boom. A community meeting followed with plans for a charity book fund and a youth event.

Pioneer Buffalo Center resident Me Dermott dies after illness

Me Dermott a pioneer resident of Buffalo Center died Wednesday morning after two weeks bedridden with heat trouble. Funeral services will be held at the Catholic church Saturday forenoon, December 7. The obituary will appear in next week’s issue.

Obituary note from Mason City recalls Mrs Fred L Hippen who died Monday noon after several weeks of illness. Funeral at Reformed Church. Buffalo Center Opens North Iowa Conference Play at Garner

Buffalo Center basketball travels to Garner Friday night for their first North Iowa Conference game of the season. After opening with a 41 to 4 win over Thompson, they suffered a 24 to 21 loss to Armstrong, showing uneven scoring from free throws as a key factor. Garner is described as a tough Fox River Conference foe, expected to challenge Buffalo Center on the Garner floor.

Remembering Emmet Delmer Dennis in Titonka obituary

Obituary for Emmet Delmer Dennis born May 17 1913 in Doan neighborhood south of Titonka and died November 35 1935 at age 22. He attended Titonka High School and lived near Buffalo Center the last six years. Short services were held at his home and Buffalo Center Methodist Church conducted by Rev A W Gauger. He is buried in Overgreen Cemetery south of Tronke. He leaves parents Clayton Dennis a brother Kenneth in Aden New York and a sister Leota Schutter of Winnebago. Post 21 meets tonight at Titonka with Harm Feldick Adjutant noting Dennier was a popular friend to all.

Revival Series to Be Held at City Hall by Rev James D Williams

Seattle physician Rev James D Williams will hold evangelistic meetings at City Hall starting Sunday December 8. He will speak on Onis Simers Go To Weaven each night from December 8 to 22 except December 10 and 11. Williams, a former AA atheism member, will share life anecdotes and invite all denominations.

Hunting on the Highways Laws and Carried Guns

During 1985 hunting seasons for rabbits squirrels quail pheasants and migratory waterfowl many asked if hunting on state highways is lawful. The Conservation Commission says no highway ban ever existed and a hunting license does not authorize hunting on private lands public highways or railroad right of ways. It remains unlawful to carry a gun in or on a motor vehicle on state highways unless unloaded and stowed.

Take Tests for Chauffeur's Licenses Now

Lew Wallace of the Motor Vehicle Department issues instructions to drivers license examiners. Applications for chauffeur licenses are to be accepted immediately with receipts for fees. Examiners will conduct regular and special chauffeur examinations using the vehicles applicants are to drive and the same equipment. Driving tests will use hired or similar equipment. Early submission is encouraged to avoid congestion around January 1 when old licenses expire.

Program Postponed at Reformed Church Mission Gull

The church social rooms will host a postponed program on Tuesday evening December 10 featuring two Japanese plays and musical numbers. An address on Mission work in Japan will be given, admission free with a silver offering accepted. Nelson Dorsey Vows In Rake Thanksgiving Week Wedding

On Tuesday afternoon November 26 at the Gutheran Parsonage in Rake Vera Nelson daughter of Mrs Gist Nelson of a Buffalo Center area farm married Lyle Dorsey of Greenfield Iowa. Rev T H Benson officiated in the presence of immediate relatives. Ruth Nelson served as bridesmaid and Alfred Christ of Lakota was best man. A six o’clock wedding dinner followed at the bride’s mother’s home. The bride, previously employed at Hotel Buffalo, will make her home in Greenfield Iowa. A shower at Zion church basement in Rake honored the couple with gifts and congratulations.

Bandits Rob Lakota Bank for 733.05 Dollars

Two unmasked bandits robbed the Lakota branch of Buffalo Center Warmers Trust and Savings Bank on Tuesday afternoon around 3 pm, taking 733.05 dollars from the change racks and money drawers. They forced cashier Gerzema to the floor, fled in a V-8 with license 55-344, heading north toward Highway 9, and left no trace as investigators seek suspects. The loss is insured.

The Auxiliary of Legion Post No. 21 held its monthly meeting December 2 at Mrs. Glorfelds. Reports covered county auxiliary meeting, sewing, poppy order, and a plan for a radio contest program at City Hall. A new year committee roster was set, lunch raised ninety cents, and meeting adjourned.
