A New Mexico resident, Sowers, left Sunday with a sextet for health reasons. She consulted Dr. Olmage, city physician, and Dr. Bowers accompanied her to the train. She plans a stay with a sister in Iceland to recover and hopes to return home in a few months.
A Radcliffe to Clarion trip for Stella and Ruth Olson ended with a crash as their car struck an unlit parked vehicle. Stella suffered a broken nose and jaw, and others sustained minor injuries. repairs were arranged. George Freerkson of Kanawha, a former Buffalo Center resident and group manager, graduates next spring and plans to pursue mission work in Africa. he is remembered by many here.
The evening school in the school auditorium reports unusually large turnout with 34 attendees on the first class held November 26 and 62 at the following Tuesday session. Instructor Clar Mecheny leads with help from the Siren City agriculture teacher. Next topic on December 10 asks how to save the largest number of piglets. The death messenger brought sorrow to two Buffalo Center households in quick succession, touching not only the families but many beyond the immediate circle as grief spreads through the community.
Nels Gjerstad a longtime Buffalo Center farmer and Winnebago county resident died Saturday night at his home one mile east of the city from blood poisoning after a scratch on his hand. He was born in Norway December 18, 1853 and came to Wisconsin forty seven years ago. He lived on the farm with his wife Billie Tweed since 1891 and left seven children, a brother and sister in Norway, and many friends. He was a faithful member of the Dutherin church and served as deacon and chairman.
Gijerstad would have reached his seventh birthday in 19 days. Funeral services were held yesterday afternoon December 8 with a brief family service at the home at 1 pm and a Lutheran church service at 1:30 pm. Interment followed in the local cemetery conducted by Rev. T. H. Benson.
Herman Bruhns died Tuesday forenoon December 2 at 11 oclock in the Home of his daughter Mrs Geo Ter Yeer. He was in his eighties and had suffered strokes in recent years. His wife predeceased him. Funeral services will be held Friday afternoon at one oclock at the Reformed church conducted by Rev J E Seehoon. Further reference will be in the Tribune.
The American Country Life Conference at the Wisconsin College of Agriculture urges a surfaced road to every farmer’s gate. With 3,000,000 miles of roads, only 800,000 are state or federal highways. About 90 percent are local dirt roads, often impassable in winter, forcing farmers to use horse drawn transport to reach mains. The conference backs low cost surfaces bound by asphaltic oils with durable, inexpensive service.
Local notice seeks raw furs at top market price. Buyer A Nelson offers meeting at Yonge Produce Station starting Monday December 6th and every Monday after, inviting fur owners to bring items for sale. Christmas shopping hinted.
