Elevator Sales Highlight Buffalo Center Farmers Co op Meeting

A strong turnout for the Buffalo Center Farmers Cooperative Elevator 50th annual meeting saw a supper in the school cafeteria before an 8 pm business session. The fiscal year reported sales of 2,650,500.23 with net savings of 163,266.86 and payroll of 81,249.11. Directors Alvin Meinders and Johnny Doden were reelected for three-year terms amid farming trend talks and a prize drawing hosted by local families.

Stanfield Crews Return for Sewer Project

Workmen of Stanfield & Associates return to Buffalo Center to complete the sanitary sewer contract. Crews operate at the lagoon site one and one half miles north, installing the line from the lagoon to the pumping station. After this phase, remaining city blocks will be tackled.

Vern Fiderlick to Manage Elevator at Buffalo Center

Announcement from the Farmers Cooperative Elevator annual meeting states Vernon Fiderlick will assume the manager post Monday August 11. He has prior elevator management experience in Lakota and Luzerne, is a U.S. Air Force veteran, and serves as Post Commander of the American Legion. He and his wife Dorothy have three children and live near Lakota, planning a move to Buffalo Center once housing is found.

Plan Friday Funeral Service For Peter DeVries

Funeral services for Peter De Vries, 60, will be held Friday afternoon at 1 30 p.m. at the United Methodist Church in Buffalo Center. Interment will follow in a local cemetery. He passed away early Wednesday at Timely Mission Nursing Home where he had lived for some time.

Buffalo Center Business Men's Club Picnic Planned

Members and families of the Buffalo Center Business Men's Club will meet at the Swimming Pool Park on Monday evening August 11 for the annual picnic. Miss Kossuth-Winnebago Crowned At Swea City Pageant

Louise Kay Quam, 18, of Rake won the Miss Kossuth-Winnebago title after talent, swimsuit and evening gown competitions. She performed a clarinet solo as her talent and will reign until next year's pageant, with scholarship and wardrobe prizes and a state pageant berth in Davenport. Quam is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Gerald Quam.

F F A Topping Corn At Intersections In Buffalo Center District

Buffalo Center F F A plans a corn topping safety campaign to reduce rural intersection accidents. Volunteers will top at least 100 feet along field edges beside roads forming triangular clearings at dangerous corners. No charge. August 15 is contact deadline for farmers. Livestock Auction Brings Top Prices at Winnebago Junior Show

The Winnebago Junior Show auction July 31 featured spirited bidding and strong prices for youth stock. Buffalo Center Farmers Trust Bank paid 46.0 per cwt for a Charolais cross Reserve Grand Champion. Jim Renshaw and Darrell Eastvold also posted top bids in beef and swine. Sheep and pen lots followed with Brones Livestock and Kerber Milling Company among buyers, while area buyers again favored nearby showmen.

County Soybean Support Set at $2.21 per Bushel

Chairman Alonzo Johnson of the Agricultural Stabilization and Conservation County Committee announced 1969 crop soybean price supports at an average of 2.21 dollars per bushel. The rate aligns with the national average loan of 2.25 dollars for 12.6 to 13 percent moisture soybeans, with No. 1 grade and No. 2 grade differences noted.

Two Charged In Winnebago Vehicle Theft

Two former Winnebago Industries employees, Wayne Green of Britt and Jaren Cink of Garner, are charged with three counts of motor vehicle larceny and two counts of conspiracy after thefts of three Winnebago motor homes from the Forest City plant.
