Sgt. Paul Balog of Cornwells Heights received the Silver Star for actions on September 29 near Chu Lai Vietnam with the 101st Airborne Division. He exposed himself to fire to rescue wounded soldiers and led an assault on enemy bunkers despite wounds. Balog, a 3 year Army enlistee and Bensalem graduate, is the son of Mr and Mrs John Balog.
Allied spokesmen announced that the first 102 hours of the battle of the cities produced heavy casualties. Communist forces reported 12 704 killed and 3 576 captured as suspected guerrillas. South Vietnamese troops suffered 661 killed and 1 792 wounded. American forces lost 318 killed and 1 639 wounded. Four allied troops were killed and 52 wounded. Civilian tolls were not yet estimated. Six U S missionaries were murdered in the central highlands leper colony.
A bench warrant was issued in Bucks County Court for Francis C. Kenney who escaped Norristown State Hospital and faced holdup charges from a May 12, 1967 incident at the Cornwells Station Pennsylvania Railroad. Detective Robert Bell filed the complaint, and Judge Edward G. Biester Sr. signed the warrant.
Traveling registrars finish their first week in Lower Bucks with a stop at Middletown Township Municipal Levittown Route 413 from 2 to 9 p.m. They will also register party changes and removal notices. The next stop is Bensalem Township Municipal Building Cornwells Heights Monday. Daily registrations available 8 30 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Bucks County Registration Commission Office in the Courthouse Doylestown.
Mrs Mary O Connor Mamon 49 of Levittown faces murder and assault charges in the hammer slaying of Mrs Lorraine Mullery 47 and beating of her son Donald 12 and neighbor Nancy Markham 13. Hearing postponed to 10 am Tuesday to allow defense to subpoena medical records from Lower Bucks Hospital. Mamon was arrested by FBI in Mobile Alabama on a fugitive warrant last April and extradited to Pennsylvania January 3.
Bensalem Township police arrested 18 year old Joseph E Rock of Philadelphia on burglary charges after a 2 29 a m alarm at Kelly s Corner Street Road and Route 1 He was AWOL from the Army and found hiding in the store Rock was lodged in the Bensalem lock up Justice of the Peace Chris Ritter was to hear the case Assistants included Sgt Alex Mackwatch and Patrolmen Jeffrey Jones John Smith George Berry and Richard Bolton The accused youth was staying at the Americana Motel Route 1
President Johnson presses Vietnam policy during a two day eight city Wisconsin tour ending in Green Bay. He says the South Vietnamese must do more for themselves as Nixon trails Romney into the state Monday.
A Wilmington man, Harry Gee, 60, of 102 Market St., was sentenced to 60 days in Bucks County Prison after pleading guilty to operating a motor vehicle while under the influence. Gee was arrested Nov. 5, 1967 at Route 1 and Olds Blvd. by Falls Township Patrolman Thomas Nuss.
Funeral services are planned for Joseph A. Keating Sr. longtime Penndel Borough Council President who died of kidney failure at Abington Hospital. A Solemn Requiem Mass will be held at Our Lady of Grace Church in Penndel with burial in Resurrection Cemetery. He was active in business and Republican politics for over 40 years and is survived by his wife Helen Keating, son Joseph A. Keating Jr., a brother Leonard and two grandchildren. Donations may be sent to the Greater Philadelphia Area Kidney Foundation.
Bristol Borough's Lincoln Ave Redevelopment Plan won federal approval and a 450000 HUD grant announced by Rep Edward G Bies ter Jr The project will demolish 43 houses in two blocks and rehabilitate many others with acquisition and relocation funds for a 7.87 acre area The total cost nears 890000 with the borough expected to provide about 100000 for sewers roads and related work Residents are largely Puerto Rican and will be aided in relocation by the Bucks County Redevelopment Authority

Walter D. Campbell of Buckingham Township planned to face Bucks County Grand Jury next month on charges of fraud and embezzlement for allegedly cheating a client out of 1400 dollars. He was arrested by detective Thawley Hayman and had a hearing before Justice Clyde Leaver Jr. Campbell, a 1963 Bucks Bar admittee, has worked with several firms and clerked for Judge Gerald Flood. He is married with three daughters.
A Bristol Township man Patrick Gross 48 was treated at Lower Bucks Hospital for a back strain after his car was rear ended at Green Lane and Mitchell Road at 1:45 a.m. Roger Williamson 25 of Levittown was driving too fast for conditions and will face charges.
Lawyers to file briefs within 30 days in the re trial hearing of 36 year old Aaron Shelton Jr. of Langhorne on murder charges. The Bucks County Court session ended after two days of testimony as Shelton seeks release or new trial citing coerced confession and mistreatment in 1946 murder of Gladys Shetland.
An incendiary origin fire damaged a room at the George Washington Motor Lodge on Route 1 Trevose. About fifty volunteers from Nottingham and Trevose fire companies fought the 6 40 p m blaze with Robert Early of Nottingham Fire Company directing operations.
Spinal meningitis has killed Pvt. John Kelly Jr. of Abington, Pa., and left another GI gravely ill at Ft. McClellan, marking a second fatal outbreak in three months. Fort officials released the identities Friday.

The claim alleges Johnson was arrested and assaulted after a protest, with officers accused of using a racist slur. A 38 year old Bristol man, Royds Fenton of 1152 Beaver St, was re sentenced yesterday in Bucks County Court. The Barr Walker Act sentence dating from 1963 was set aside and a new term imposed. Fenton faces a six to twenty five year range with consecutive counts for sodomy and rape. Parole eligibility will be decided by the parole board after the minimum term. PMID
A Levittown burglary reported by Phillip Scheiner of 40 Petunia Road, Plumbridge, saw a ranch mink store valued at $500, a suede jacket worth $100, and six bottles of whiskey valued at $45 taken. Police said entry was forced through the front door and the house was ransacked between 10 a.m. Sunday and 3:30 p.m. yesterday.
A Levittown woman, Mary A. Walker aged 54, sustained a fractured left collarbone in a two car crash at Trenton and Heartwood Roads in Middletown Township. John E. Oriolt, 23, of Levittown was the other driver. Walker will be charged with failure to yield from a stop sign. The collision occurred at 3:45 PM. Walker was treated and released from Lower Bucks Hospital.

A West Bristol driver, Ronald Kimble, 19, was treated at Lower Bucks Hospital for a back strain after a two car collision on Route 413 at Ford Road in Bristol Township. He was released after treatment. Michael Cunningham, 46, of Levittown, was identified as the other driver and faces charges of driving too close and reckless driving. The crash occurred at 5 37 p.m. and Kimble was transported by a friend.
