Texas farm boys train tours 21 states in 16 days

The Texas farm boys special train left Texas A and M College at noon August 7 on a 5000 mile trip through 21 states in 16 days. It carries about 125 prize winning club boys and 50 adults plus officials and press. The trip rewards club members for good records and showcases farming methods with stops at colleges and farms across the Midwest and Northeast. Leaders include T O Walton and Walton Peteet with Red Cross nurse and a physician aboard.

Presbyterian Church Accepts Call for New Pastor

Dr. W N Shell of Decatur Alabama has accepted the call to pastor the First Presbyterian Church and will arrive by October first to begin duties. The Bryan Presbyterian Church also announces Rev. W N Sholl of Decatur has accepted its unanimous call to be pastor starting October 1, continuing until next month’s end.

Red Cross Pushes Health Drive in Brazos County

The Brazos County Red Cross executive board unanimously approved a county health program led by Miss Daisy DeWitt. A health center will be set up in Bryan with a planned child health conference, nursing staff expansion, and countywide education in collaboration with the State Board of Health. Physicians present voiced support for the effort.

Pays Big to Raise High Grade Cotton

W E Gandy of near Wellborn brought ten bales grown from Bennett s improved seed paid two hundred dollars per ton. The cotton was graded by Brazos County Marketing Association with staple one to one and one sixteenth inches long. It earned a premium of one and a half cents per pound above the mid lling price while seed from the crop will sell for three times the market price for planting purposes.

Waldrop Girl Wins Swimming Prize at Jana Luska Encampment

Miss Nanne Shel Waldrop, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. A. M. Waldrop, won the swimming record at Jana Luska North Carolina with a 11 4 mile swim among 125 contestants. She received a special insignia for her bathing costume and was aided by a rescue boat during the event. She will return home next Tuesday amid congratulations.

Buchanan Crawford Couple Quietly Wed in Shirock

Mr C A Buchanan and Mrs Artie Crawford of this city were married last night at 8:45 in the home of Rev Eck Smith in Shi rock. The couple, both from Bryan and Brazos county, left by the 12:35 train for Fort Worth on a short bridal trip and will live on East 24th street after their return.
