Three Cheers for County Agent Benson and Poultry Show Coming

The column extols County Agent C L Benson and notes a Bryan poultry show will be held in December. An attractive catalogue will be issued and Bryan merchants won’t be asked to fund it with ads. Ads will be accepted only from poultry dealers. Bryan merchants may announce free of charge.

Persimmon trail leads to arrest in multiple assaults

Andrew Bemley, 21, a Black man from Canton, Illinois, is held after police say he confessed to assaulting seven women and the slaying of 81 year old Oliver Wysong. A persimmon trail from Mrs. H. C. Hirschley’s home aided the arrest.

Ursuline convent dedication in Bryan detailed

From the Houston Post archives twenty five years ago the Ursuline convent dedication in Bryan included preparatory services and a sermon by Rev. J. M. Kirwin of Galveston. Tomorrow Bishop N A Gallagher of Galveston would perform the dedicatory rites.

Wilson Presides At Little Theater Meeting Tuesday

The Little Theatre of Bryan held a business meeting at the Carnegie Library. A 380 minute program was set for each regular session and D L Wilson will appoint a planning committee. A membership committee was formed with Paul Stevens Tom Suber and Sankey Park. A called meeting was planned for Monday October 25 to start ticket sales for Katharine and Petruchio.

Bandits Rob Sugar Creek Bank Take $10,000

Five wild west bandits robbed a Sugar Creek Missouri suburb bank taking $10,000. They lined up ten people against a wall and fired a fusillade over their heads before escaping.

Col. James, 82, Arrives for A M C Texas Centennial

Col James second president of the Agricultural and Mechanical College of Texas arrives in Bryan to attend the Semi Centenn ial celebration. He is guests at the Wipprechts home and recalls his 1872 arrival to reorganize the college before leaving in 1883 to start a Wichita Falls bank. He plans to return to Texas to live.

Funeral Services For Chas. Gerke Jr.

Funeral services were held this morning for Charles Gerke Jr. who was killed in Fort Worth Thursday in an auto accident at Kurten. Rev J J Kasiski conducted the services with pallbearers Fritz Wesson Arnold Stevens Arthur Hintz Henry Kurten Emanuel Kasiski and Otto Keller. Interment followed in Kurten cemetery under direction of MecCulloch Gordon Co funeral directors.

Baptist Annual Meeting Sets Two Day Session at Wellborn

The Brazos Baptist Association will hold a two day meeting at the Wellborn Baptist church starting Thursday October 21 and ending Friday October 22. Moderator W H Buchanan will preside and all county Baptists are urged to attend.

Four Russians Executed for Misappropriation and Bribery

Moscow reports four Russians convicted of state fund misappropriation and bribery or espionage were executed today. One executed former Agent C. H. Arist of the secret police was convicted of betraying Bolsheviks.

Knights of Columbus Chapel Planned for A and M College

A 60 by 40 foot hollow tile and stucco chapel will rise just north of the A and M College Campus. Ground floor for worship and a basement with parlors library and games open to all students. Completion by January 1 1927 at an estimated cost of 25000. Rev Father Gleissner spearheads effort after years of Catholic student services at the college. There are about 110 Catholic boys plus officers and residents.

Cattle Man and Cowboy Face Federal Murder Trial

In Oklahoma City on October 20 legal proceedings began for the second trial of W. K. Hale a wealthy cattle man and John Ramsey a cowboy farmer charged with the murder of Osage Indian Henry Roan. Attorneys indicated extensive time would be needed to select a jury.

East Texas Chamber of Commerce board plans a Bryan meeting after invitation from Bryan Chamber. Secretary Eberstadt read letters from R M Keily and W M Blanton noting the invitation. Tom Padgitt Pioneer Texan Dies in Waco Home

Tom Padgitt 79 longtime Texas resident and head of the Tom Padgitt Company in Waco died at his home after a period of ill health. Born in 1848 in Tennessee he moved to Texas with his family in 1854 and lived in Waco for 54 years. Funeral services set for Wednesday at 10 30 am with Dr. J M Dawson officiating. Pallbearers include fourteen longtime employees.
