In Mexico City on October 5 Associated Press reports further executions in the government campaign against military revolt following the execution of General Serrano and 13 followers. A presidential bureau statement notes three more captures and punishments in distant regions. General Alvarez says only two rebel groups remain, both small, with 5,000 Federal troops in pursuit. One group of about 800 led by General Gomez is in Vera Cruz State. another led by General Almada, Mexico City garrison chief, moved from the capital Sunday night.
A baby boy arrives Sunday night at the Armstrong home on Ursuline Avenue. Rebecca Hall becomes a bookkeeper at Tyler Haswell’s and will live in Bryan with her sister Adel Hall. Kathleen Cason returns from vacation to resume duties for National Life and Accident in Bryan. Troy Beard and Mrs. Beard stay in Bryan for care of his health. Mrs. Billy King, recently operated on, returns home. Miss Mary Jones pledges Pi Beta Phi at SMU. Lloyd Surply tracked to St. Louis with a Ford roadster. Local theatres close for Jewish holiday. Rev Watts attends the Southern Presbyterian assembly in Waco.
The United Daughters of the Confederacy Texas Division schedules the 31st annual convention for October 25 to 27, 1927 in Wichita Falls with W S Scurry chapter hosting. Meetings at First Presbyterian Church with Marchman Hotel as headquarters. Round trip Bryan to Wichita Falls tickets set at 10.87 dollars. certificates for reduced-rate tickets distributed by Mrs. Albert Buchanan. The national convention will convene in Charleston November 14 to 17, 1927.
Washington Oct 5 Dwight Morrow the new ambassador to Mexico began a series of conferences with Secretary Kellogg at the state department. No date for the ambassador’s arrival has been set but he was to go soon.
Ima McCulloch Wellborn Es telle Armstrong Tabor Ella Crenshaw Reliance Alma Kindt Kings Highway win college scholarships for the State Fair Club Girls Encampment October 18 to 20. Crenshaw is county college scholarship winner and represents the county in the state contest. Extension Women's Club and Bryan Lions Club sponsor the trio.
Mumford P T A reorganized at the schoolhouse with Mrs W R Ball as president and Mrs Columbus Bullock, Jud Collier, Hosea Collier, Jim Stubbs, and Gilbert Stubbs elected to officer posts. Monthly meetings are set for the last Thursday. Principal Dixon L Turner and his wife supported the plans. Refreshments of sherbet and cake were served.
C J MacDonald publicity chief reveals the Barnes circus will perform in Bryan on Saturday October 15. He notes the old cook house is gone as the show shifts cash spending to Bryan and a cafeteria remains for workers. The circus employs about 1080 people who now eat at local Bryan eating houses like other residents.
Former Senator John Sharp Williams and Elizabeth Webb Williams quietly mark their fiftieth anniversary at Cedar Grove plantation near Benton Mississippi. Messages from across the United States arrive, with two sons and a daughter among the visitors as the couple observes fifty years of marriage. Williams served in Congress 1893 to 1909 and as U S Senator 1911 to 1923.
The Music Study Club will hold a special Open Day session in the auditorium of Carnegie Library on Thursday October 6 at 3 30 p m. A delightful program is arranged for the hour and members along with friends are urged to attend hoping for a large audience at the club’s initial meeting for the new year.

Four year old Little Lynette Edge daughter of Mr and Mrs Harry Edge was bitten by her home cat while playing. The cat was killed and its head sent to the Pasteur Institute in Austin for rabies testing. Results showed no evidence of rabies, bringing relief to the family and friends.
Los Angeles report states Sam Warner vice president of Warner Brothers Picture Inc died today from pneumonia in California.
W Timmerman senior at A and M College of Texas from Wharton elected president of the Wharton County A M Club for 1927 27 session. Other officers named George Kaiser vice president R W Davidson secretary treasurer. Membership list includes Wharton El Campo Glen Flora Louise East Bernard Mackay and other towns.

A record Pittsburgh crowd of nearly 45 000 attended the World Series opener at Forbes Field. The Martha class of First Christian church held its regular monthly meeting on Tuesday night October 4 at Mrs G L Crawford’s home with Miss Grady Dowling and Mrs G L Crawford as hosts. Hallowe en decorations set a festive tone for games after the business session. Dessert followed in keeping with the theme.
Asa Pendleton, 35, wanted in several states on various charges, is jailed in Fort Worth after being brought from Marlin. He is connected to bank robberies in Plano and Pampa and to an attempted robbery of the Stockyards National Bank. Witnesses linger to identify suspects.
Mrs. C H Winkler hosted the Campus Study Club on the A and M campus Tuesday afternoon. Officers and past presidents gathered as a chorus performed two numbers and Winkler outlined goals for the year while renewing loyalty to the state federation. Refreshments followed a social reunion after summer separation.
On October 4, Dean Charles E. Finley reports 2418 students enrolled at the A and M College of Texas with 1000 freshmen. Enrollment exceeds last year by more than 100, and the 1927-28 total, including expected February additions, is projected between 2600 and 2700, the largest in school history.
Austin October 5 The dollar of the 15 per capita portionment for each Texas school will be paid The scholastic enrollment eligible for apportionment will run about 1 370 000 according to Superintendent Marrs today.
Mrs. Mattie Shrrmshire and daughter Mrs. John Hoskins of Detroit, with their little son, left Bryan after several weeks visiting local friends and relatives. They stayed with Mrs. Rosa Stubenraugh on Washington Avenue and visited Mrs. W A Deaton’s family, along with Dee Mike and Mike’s families.
Charles Harvey Carnes son of Mr. and Mrs. J. P. Carnes married Nora Belle Sheffield of Grimes county on Sunday October 2 at 6 o clock in Sonville. The couple will reside with relatives in Lola Bryan while Mr. Carnes works as a florist at A. M. College. Best wishes from friends are extended to the newlyweds.
The sixth annual Texas and Southwestern Lore from the Texas Folk Lore Society, edited by J. Frank Dobie, features 260 pages of legends, frontier ballads, and cowboy songs. Articles include Jovita Gonzales on the Folk Lore of the Texas Mexican Vaquero and pieces by Bertha McKee Dobie and Evetts Haley, with about 2,000 copies distributed to date.
