East Texas Chamber Elected to Reduce Cotton and Tax

The East Texas Chamber of Commerce Executive Board met at nine in the morning with President R M Kelly presiding. They adopted department reports and discussed cotton acreage reduction and agriculture programs for East Texas, plus a proposed cut in corporate income tax.

Siecke Addresses Forest Control At Seminar

E O Siecke of A and M College was principal speaker at a Seminar meeting on forest management He outlined replenishment methods and consequences of neglect showcasing two film sets one showing ideal forests and the other current conditions He also noted a big holiday sale at Duke and Ayres windows for November 27 and 29.

Spencer Wooten Wedding in Bryan at Free Baptist Church

The marriage of Lena Wooten to Hal Porter Spencer was solemnized at the Free Baptist Church in Bryan on Monday November 22 with Rev Charles C Thompson officiating. The ceremony featured Mrs Clara Dixon of Houston singing, Parker Carroll as escort, Jack Humphrey best man, and Artie Lou Smith maid of honor. The couple left for their home in Lubbock Texas. Allen Academy Boys Host Social at Baptist Tabernacle

The Allen Academy boys of the First Baptist Sunday School hosted a Saturday night party at the Baptist Tabernacle with a program of pleasure and refreshments. Mrs. W S Howell aided the Social Committee in making the evening enjoyable for the boys and their invited girl friends. More social affairs are planned for the church’s young people.

Baptist Teachers' Training Course Closes at First Baptist

The weeklong program at the First Baptist church concluded last night. Mrs. R. J. Brown aided Superintendent C. W. Crawford in running the course on S. S. Caldwell Girls Visit A and M Extension Service

Sixty two Caldwell High School girls visited Texas A and M College at College Station on November 28. They toured the textile engineering dairy and college laundry departments under chaperone Mrs W R Milroy home economics teacher. The Caldwell group traveled by automobile for the observation visit.

Mr and Mrs B O Merryman of Houston plan Bryan residence after renting the Will Howells cottage off Baker avenue. Merryman is district agent for National Life U S A and was born in Franklin Robertson county but has been away from the area fifteen years living in South Texas.

Price Holds Own Cotton Drops Only $1 Per Bale

The Associated Press reports a predicted cotton crop of 18,899,000 bales for the season as of November 14, up 481,000 from the prior forecast. Ginning reached 12,953,708 bales, Texas leading with 5.8 million. Prices in New York fell about one dollar per bale despite government yield projections.

Visiting Pastors Preach At First Baptist Church

The First Baptist Church of Bryan hosted visiting preachers at both services while Rev. R. E. Day was away at the State Baptist Convention in San Antonio. Hon. H. L. Lewis of Navasota spoke in the morning and Rev. C. Bowles in the evening, with Bowles citing Galatians 6 11 and impressing listeners. Bowles, a former Alpine pastor, is traveling with his family and seeking a new pastorate, drawing fond wishes for Bryan.

Nagle of Dallas Slips Injuring Shoulder on Stairway

J C Nagle head of the department of feering at A and M C now in Dallas suffered a dislocated shoulder after a fall on the stairway leading to his office last Thursday. Mrs Nagle reports he is doing well though the shoulder remains very sore and he cannot attend himself.
