Oklahoma City bids for charter changes and a bond issue passed easily as five brothers face arrest in a tar-feather case. Fire investigators salvage Coliseum ruins and probe the blaze with hopes of finding the death toll beyond five while rumors of a booze party loom over the tragedy.
The People’s Column announces a Wednesday April 28 concert broadcast from 8 to 9 pm featuring W. D. Dobson Ireland Hampton and 9 year old Miss Bess Brown Lomax of Dallas. The program lists Chopin Schubert Mendelssohn Bach Beethoven and Grieg pieces, with Lomax performing Mozart Bach Grieg selections.
Rev R E Day Mrs Day and daughter Corrine return to Bryan from San Antonio where Corrine teaches in Sour Lake. Betsy Searcy hosts a party honoring Bennie Marburger of College Station on graduation courtesy. Mrs Paul Swancoat and son Paul Jr of Laredo visit J A McQueen home. Paul Jr graduated from Laredo high school last week and is greeted by Bryan and College Station friends.
Secretary of Agriculture Arthur M. Hyde paid a brief stop at the Texas A M College in College Station on Tuesday afternoon and evening. He traveled from Waco with Walter G. Lacey and R. J. Potts and dined with college officials from the college, Experiment Station, and Extension Service. Hyde said the visit carried no official significance beyond the chance to view the campus and meet staff.
The Bryan Western Union office began operating a new Simplex device Tuesday at 4 o'clock. Sankey Park sent the first message about windless watches using the system. The setup by A. T. Beard of the San Antonio office combines receiver sender and generator with an electrically operated typewriter for outgoing messages and printed incoming tapes. Manager C. R. Overt says longer messages go faster with fewer errors, and the Bryan installation mirrors the latest standard in major offices.
The cotton market showed little change with the July market flat and the fall market higher by 5 to 8 points. Local spot prices were unchanged at 14 to 14 1/2 cents.

This store is part of a recent Bryan avenue business surge between 25th and 24th streets.
W. E. White has resigned from White Motor Co and accepted the shop superintendent post at Garrett Motor Co in Palestine. He left Bryan Saturday to report for duty Monday, ending his presidency of the Day Young People’s U. P. U. and leaving friends in Bryan who wish him well.

President Walton appoints a 15 member Texas committee from A & M College to coordinate state agencies in agricultural development as part of a land utilization movement begun at the Texas Land Utilization Conference in Waco in April.
The second carload of tomatoes will be moved from Bryan within 24 hours, says F H Tulloch of Newton-Wallace Co. Early movement aids market conditions while quality has been excellent and packing efficient. About $1,000 is paid per car load to growers and labor, with several growers already reaching $100 in offerings.
Glendale California May 2 Roscoe Turner Los Angeles aviator today held the record for the fastest east west transcontinental flight. He completed the trip across the country in 15 hours 52 minutes landing here from New York during the night. He beat Captain Frank Hawks record made last summer by 27 minutes.
Last witnesses for opponents of the London naval treaty testified before the Senate Foreign Relations Committee. Hearings wrap up tomorrow and a favorable report is anticipated soon.
Indictments against Harold White Otis DeHart Dewey Carnes and J M Eden charge auto theft with two separate cases including theft of a Parker vehicle and a Fort Worth car. The quartet is jailed in Rusk on highway robbery charges and faces trial next Monday. copies must reach defendants two days prior. Sheriff J H Reed plans to move them to Bryan for the proceedings.
Bryan Lions Club elected new directors for the coming year effective July 1. New directors named are Wm. E. Wimberley C. B. Hallman and W. E. Paulson with Director A S Ware re elected. Lion W S Howell remains as hold over director.
Isaac Starnes and four brothers face charges after alledged abduction and tar and feathering of Dr. S L Newsom, dentist, amid claims the act followed a broken home and alleged affair with a wife. The grand jury prepared to file charges naming the Starnes brothers as principals.
A Sunday afternoon game on the Kurten grounds starts at 2 50. Smetana pits John Boriskie and Joe Merka against Kurten’s Henry Odom and Wallace Sabo with Lanzy Wallace catching for Kurten.
O. L. Wiedenhamer national commander of the American Legion and former Baylor University student spoke at the Baylor commencement today.
Graf Zeppelin departs Pernambuco Brazil after rain delay for a 4500 mile leg up the north coast of South America. Dr Hugo Eckener expects to reach Lakehurst New Jersey by Sunday night and Friedrichshafen on June.
Rev. C L Lokey rural extension secretary of the Texas conference will preach at the First Methodist Church Sunday morning June 1 at 11 o clock. Hon Oak McKenzie will deliver a lay sermon at 8 p m.
The schooner Flechas was towed into Galveston harbor after a norther damaged her masts during a first voyage to the Herald banks. Houston sport fishermen aboard the wrecked craft were reported safe at home as a tanker alerted the coast guard.
Fort Worth's population is 160,892 this year, up 54,000 from 1920 when it was 106,426, according to the new census.
American Legion national commander O L Bodenhamer told Baylor University graduates that citizens owe three duties: guard the ballot, protect government institutions, and pass citizenship to youth through education. He spoke at Baylor's commencement in Waco on May 28.
Voters approving the school improvement program increased the levy to retire bonds and authorized a bond issue to finance completing the Bowie building project. The charter amendment raises the levy from 20 to 35 cents per 190 dollars of property and approves 100 dollars in bonds for school purposes to retire warrants totaling 35 000 dollars from last year.
Flood waters gnawed at levees and emergency dykes in Louisiana upstate forcing 6,000 residents from homes as aid from Red Cross and others continued. The first fatality, 17 year old William Latfon, drowned in Grant Parish.
Flood damage was believed over today with the Red river falling here and nearly at a peak in the nearby parishes.
