San Antonio Texas May 26 two Republican State conventions were held when several negro delegates with some whites withdrew from the regular body. Both sides elected uninducted delegates to the National Republican convention in Chicago.

A. & M. College Grants 98 Degrees At 44th Commencement

The forty fourth annual commencement of A. and M. College ended with a graduation parade. Diplomas were given to 98 graduates and 65 certificates to two year engineering or agriculture students. Edwin Markham delivered the address in which he urged service to the good as life’s supreme business. Everett E. McQuillen was valedictorian, and Company C won the Howell flag trophy. Alumni elected Webb Howell president with a strong slate for officers.

Austin May 26 The compromise efforts on the pink boll worm dispute will be attempted at a conference of all interests tonight if prospects of the compromise develop Four members of the Federal Horticultural Board will be called in the House The Senate is not in session.

School tax carried in college district election

Complete returns from the school tax election show not a single dissenting vote on the fifty cent tax. Forty four votes were cast with about fifty eligible residents on campus. The measure completes the transfer of the high school to the A and M College district and it will operate next September. The State Board of Education tentatively granted about $13 000 under Rural Aid for maintenance and operation, contingent on the tax approval.

Price Cutting Expands to U.S. Wholesalers

New York May 21 Wholesale price cutting spreads as managers of major department stores refuse to buy from robbers unless prices are reduced. An official store with six-city branches states it will not purchase future stock until manufacturers and wholesalers lower high prices. The nation calls for price cuts, arguing wage hikes did not curb high costs.

Mrs H C Horton Dies After Illness In Reliance

Mrs H C Horton a well known Reliance resident died at Bryan Hospital after a long illness. She would have turned 32 today. She was a daughter of D B Lloyd born in Reliance and a member of the Reliance Baptist church. She is survived by her husband two sons her father and other relatives. Funeral was held in Reliance cemetery this afternoon at 4 with Rev J M Bullock presiding.

Bailey Campaign Aide Denies Rumor of Bailey Withdrawal

Luther Nichols, campaign manager for J Bailey, denied rumors that Bailey would withdraw from the Governor race. The chatter spread among delegates at the State convention after a telegram allegedly from State Bailey adviser Charles F Greenwood claimed a delay due to legal matters. Greenwood said no such telegram was received while Speaker R E Thomason named T F Frazier as his campaign manager. headquarters were set at the Southland Hotel with Judge B Looney also on the same floor.

Cottonwood Logs in Mooring Well No 1 Near Bryan

John Collins conducted a business venture at Brazos Bottom and visited Mooring Well No 1 about sixteen miles west of Bryan on the Brazos River. Warren Oil Company is drilling the well, currently around 600 feet deep with logs indicating past river bottom soil. Samples were given to Dr. O M A and M College, and drillers hope for oil as work proceeds with enthusiasm.
