The Associated Press reports two more sailors wounded at Vera Cruz died today. Other dispatches note Mexican Federals mining the Vera Cruz to Mexico City railroad and the U S seeking consular updates in Mexico as tensions rise with Huerta.
The House Judiciary Committee ordered joint resolutions proposing amendments to the federal constitution for woman suffrage and nationwide prohibition reported without recommendation. Secretary Daniels announced President Wilson would travel to Brooklyn to meet the Montana bearing bodies of U S soldiers killed at Vera Cruz.
Samfordyce Texas May 5 The provisional squadron of cavalry Texas National Guard faced firing from Mexican forces across the Rio Grande About 150 shots were exchanged but no Texans were harmed The action followed Captain Younger leaving for Mission to contract for horses for the cavalry
Fort Worth Texas May 4 The highest price ever paid for calves on the local market since establishment was recorded when T B Saunders and Company of Bridgeport sold eighty three calves to a local commission company for 9 60 per hundredweight. The calves averaged 145 pounds and the lot was the smoothest ever sold here.
New York May 4. Police seek jewels valued at 10000 dollars belonging to Mrs Henry Hutt former wife of artist Henry Hutt. The gems were stolen Thursday.

Chester Duryea, 43, killed his father General Hiram Duryea, Civil War veteran and retired starch magnate, on the sleeping porch of their Brooklyn home. Police probe his sanity after the domestic dispute over his daughter in law.
By Associated Press New York May 5 Duryea said that George Washington gave him a spiritual message before he killed his father The examination was postponed until Thursday.
Washington May 5 General Carranza and the Constitutionalists were effectively removed from mediation by three South American envoys seeking a diplomatic solution to the Mexican problem. The mediators withdrew an invitation for a personal representative after his refusal to agree to an armistice with Huerta.
After talks with President Wilson, Majority Leader Underwood said the Clayton omnibus anti trust bill the Covington interstate trade commission bill the stock securities issue regulation bill and the rural credits measure will be sent to Congress before adjournment.
Washington May 5 In the House Congressman Slayden presented one of the largest petitions to Congress protesting the Sheppard Works Hobson national prohibition resolution. Nearly 9 000 voters from the Fourteenth Congressional District signed it. petitions include county and post office details and weigh eight and a half pounds. A second set from 600 San Antonio citizens supported the resolution and were referred to the Judiciary Committee.

A blaze in Valparaiso Chile on May 4 killed more than fifty people and destroyed several buildings in the city’s commercial district. The Associated Press reports the tragedy occurred today as firefighters battled the flames.
