The Bryan Woman's Club votes to sponsor a Bryan home market for Brazos county produce. Women as major buyers would gain a reliable cash market for farmers and seasonable goods for households, improving farmer finances and family welfare.
In Brownsville on March 23 Jesse Rose and John Swanner, Willacy county deputy sheriffs, along with Lee Calloway and Archie Clark, farmers, were arrested on a bench warrant from Federal Judge Hutcheson in Houston. They face charges of intimidating witnesses in the recent trial of Sheriff Raymond Teller and other Willacy county citizens on peonage charges at Corpus Christi. All four were released on bonds of 5,000 dollars each.
C S Jones a Bryan and Brazos county pioneer and longtime First Baptist deacon died Tuesday night March 22 1927 in Bryan after a brief illness of pneumonia with complications He was born August 3 1825 in Alabama and came to Texas in 1877 with his wife Bettie Jones surviving relatives include five sons two daughters and many grandchildren This obituary notes his service to the church and community and that the burial occurs today.
Dr. Max Handman of Austin spoke at the Social Science Seminar on Monday night while a campus visitor joined Director and Mrs. Alvord for an evening lecture and luncheon with Dr. and Mrs. Taubenhaus. Brazos County Poultry Association tour begins Thursday at 8 am from Chamber of Commerce headquarters with wide turnout anticipated. Houston papers note three Houston Heights players will join A and M next year. R M Gordon, son-in-law of W E Saunders, earned praise from Houston cotton men for accurate crop estimates last spring. The Real Hat Shop in Bryan plans a top millinery display attracting many nearby shoppers. Mrs. Mattie Hall returns from Dallas with her daughter Mrs. H J Tuffley, who will stay several weeks.
Mrs. H. C. Wilson, 81, died this morning at her daughter’s home east of College Station after a three week illness. A native of Virginia, she had lived here for five to six years. Funeral services were held Friday morning at 10 at the Methodist tabernacle in College, conducted by Rev. Jesse C. Thompson.
Dr J J Harrington announced he refused the Texas prison supervisory board post offered by Gov Moody. He said the prison system will be reorganized and the legislative measure creating the board will be wiped from the books.
In Dallas on March 23 W D Yardley 18 and A T Ball 20 Bryan college students were found gas affected at the home of Mr and Mrs A C Moore. They were awakened by a gas like odor and staggered to the window then collapsed. Doctors said the gas dilated blood vessels and could be fatal in quantity. Police suspected forceful entry through a window screen. Amos Ball, another Bryan student, was at S M U and his father Rossew Ball traveled from Bryan to Dallas seeking details.
The Texas Daily Press League backs a state wide All Texas Special to tour principal manufacturing cities in the North and East with a tentative May start. A Dallas meeting March 28 will set dates and itinerary, with chamber representatives from East and West Texas ready to cooperate. J E Bell of San Benito to present the project to Lower Rio Grande Valley chambers March 25.
An armed mob of about 500 gathered before the British posts at the Shanghai International Settlement boundary. They fired rifles into the air but did not shoot at troops and eventually dispersed after the demonstration.

Robert Phillips aged 35 was shot and killed near Brownwood after a quarrel at L. J. Hoover's cafe following a stumble over a menu sign. Hoover, cafe owner, was arrested in connection with the Tuesday night incident.

In Bryan Tuesday afternoon Bryan High defeated Franklin High in a debate at 3 p.m. on whether the education department should have a secretary in the President's cabinet. Bryan High boys argued negative. Franklin girls also argued negative. Judges were John A. Moore and Mrs. J. L. Brock and Mrs. Albert Buchanan.

George Hassell of Farewell received a new 30 day extension from Governor Moody after the death warrant was deemed illegally executed. Hassell, who confessed to slaying 13 people, was ordered to die on March 25 but now has time to file an appeal.

Howse a national mercantile figure and past president of the National Dress Fabric Buyers Association will discuss Developing East Texas thru a Regional Organization. He heads Johnston Larimer Dry Goods Co of Wichita and serves as a director in multiple business ventures with extensive Chamber work in the southwest.
Ex students of Texas A and M gathered in La Feria to form a Valley wide alumni club under Cameron County farm agent Henry L Alsmeyer. The meeting aims to unite former Aggies in the Valley and discuss projects dances and entertainments for future events.

J Allen Myers of Bryan praises Chas S Jones, a leading Bryan Brazos county citizen. Myers recalls a 50 year acquaintance noting Jones' service to God family and community and offers condolences to his bereaved family and friends.
Miss Ben Wilson and Mr Paul M Guyer wed in Dallas Texas on March 21. Miss Wilson is a Den ton State College for Women graduate and former A and M College secretary. the groom is an A and M College graduate now with Rock Island Railroad at Dalhart. Attendants included Miss Dala Blanche Gage and Miss Pat Longley. The couple plan to visit Hutchinson Kansas before settling in Dalhart.
The bodies of Captain Clinton Woolsey and Lieutenant John Denton Pan American goodwill flyers killed February 26 at Buenos Aires were returned to the United States aboard a vessel carrying Assistant Secretary of War Davis.
A manifesto issued by General Pai Thung Hosi claims Shanghai will become a base for a world revolution. It says foreigners and their property should be protected for eighty years, while condemning unequal treaties and imperialist interference. The document cites imperialists hindering Chinese education and industry and notes Chinese awakening and nationalism.

Chas Nitch returned from Houston where he was called Sunday on account of the death of Joe Teichart at St. Josephs Infirmary. Funeral services were held Monday. Teichart lived here 14 years and worked as a tailor with Mr Nitch at A and M College. He had been ill for about two years seeking health in Marlin and other places before his death. Nitch was guardian of Teicharts estate as no kin was known.
Zone No 3 of the Huntsville district of the Woman's Missionary Society gathered Tuesday afternoon at the Millican church. The College Station group led the program directed by Mrs J R McKee featuring two solos by H L Tucker and a playlet A Missionary Clinic. Attendees from Bryan included numerous members led by Mrs W H Cole president presiding over the business session.
A woman's body found in the Potomac River is identified as Mrs. Gladys Houck by calling cards. She had been missing for months. Police notify Madison authorities to question Dr. Knute Houck, her husband, for investigation.
Temple March 23 officials from A and M College inspected the Midway cotton station of the state experiment farm system. They discussed root rot control, acid soil, root resistant cotton strains, soil disinfection, crop rotation, and potential funding from a $35 000 legislative bill.
