Acreage May Be Reduced In Laredo Onion District
LAREDO June 24. Uncertainty over further acreage reductions for Bermuda onions in the Laredo area this autumn follows the 1930 fall harvest which yielded the second smallest trans planted crop in the Bermuda onion industry here. Canary Island seed shipments totaling about 32 000 pounds will arrive mid August for distribution to growers in Laredo and Winter Garden, marking a sharp decline from 1930 imports. The seed cutback is attributed to growers shifting to American grown seed for the next season.
