Fort Worth June 20 The tenth annual West Texas Chamber of Commerce convention moves into its final sessions with a business meeting, nominations, officer elections, and resolutions to be acted upon. Delegates will hear James Gerard former U S Ambassador to Germany address worldwide problems.
Mrs. J. Bryan Miller returns from Leonard after her father H. Arnold’s illness and death, with her mother staying in Bryan. Courteous tributes flow from Mrs. J. H. Reed who sent a bouquet to the Eagle office. Several Bryan residents prepare summer travels visiting kin in Austin Wilkesburg Salem and Morgan City while Col C. C. Todd and daughter Jo Deed Todd arrive from Kansas City and plan to settle permanently in Bryan.
85 year old Confederate veteran J. M. McDonald of Madisonville recounts marching over 2000 miles with Company I, Green's Brigade, since 1861. He recalls Fort Craig in 1862 and the lone Northern artillery remark, and plans to attend the Green's and Hood's Brigades Reunion in July with granddaughters Anna and Erma Wallace.
The Knights of American Protestantism endorsed Senator J Thomas Heflin of Alabama for the Democratic nomination for president at their national convention in Muncie Indiana. Two hundred delegates attended with Samuel Demenderfer of Muncie as national president and headquarters based in Muncie.
Ira Dazner, a Bryan negro, was arrested yesterday by Sheriff J. A. Reed for possessing intoxicating liquor. He had 26 bottles of beer and one bottle of whiskey plus a notable sum of money on his person. Dazner remained in jail this afternoon.
A tornado struck Webb City, Oklahoma, killing Mrs. Harrison and gravely injuring her baby while six others were reported hurt. The June 20 report notes the tragedy amid the Oklahoma damage.
J A Myers of Bryan attended the National Republican convention in Kansas City and plans to observe the National Democratic convention in Houston next week. He sat with the R B Creager Texas faction as delegates over the Wurzbach faction and predicts Hoover and Curtis will sweep the country if Democrats dominate Al Smith.
A 1808 issue of The Suffolk Gazette dated June 25, 1808, was donated to the Witte Memorial Museum by Mrs. M. A. Chapman. The paper features an editorial on more beer and less rum, government act favoring Merino sheep, independence day notice, and ads for a dissolving partnership and Mr Holmes dancing school.
Houston report notes Mrs Genevieve Thompson daughter of Champ Clark arrives and declares she is not anti Smith but pro Reed. Her husband James M Thompson publisher of the New Orleans Item accompanies her for the convention.
In Corsicana a Mrs. Bart of Malakoff Texas was shot in the thigh by her husband when he stumbled and fell near their chicken house during an early morning noise investigation. She is in a local hospital in critical condition from shock and blood loss after the shotgun discharged.
Nineteen bodies were recovered from the ruins of four buildings after a boiler bath house explosion in a poor quarter of Mexico City. Thirty people are known to be injured.
William Gibbs elected president of the Wesley Brotherhood at the Methodist church for the new year, succeeding Ty Cobb. Officers named include Vice-President Oak McKenzie secretary R C Franks treasurer Jim Beard. Committees announced with Dr John W Black Ty Cobb on Program and W E Neeley R E Bosque T A Adams on Tickets.

In Columbus on June 20, the state Supreme Court upheld a four to three decision releasing bootlegger George Remus from the state hospital for the criminally insane. Remus had been committed after an acquittal on a first degree murder charge on grounds of insanity following the killing of his wife Imogene last October.
Kingsbay June 20 Umberto Nobile and five companions from the Italia have been located off the Northeast Land by Major Maddalena Italian aviator who flew this morning on a second recon of the region and dropped provisions from a hydro aircraft. The party are reported well though clutched by the Polar Sea since May 25.
The Bryan and Brazos County Chamber of Commerce plans Hood's and Green's Brigade Reunion on July 10 and 11. Secretaries Miss Katie Daffan and Mrs Libble Cameron prepared the program, with Bryan expecting its largest crowd yet based on advance letters.
Judge J. T. Maloney addressed Steele's Store Boys and Girls 4-H Club on Tuesday night praising their club work and noting prizes help connect youth with industry. He judged a pecan budding contest won by Lena Catalina in 1.75 minutes.

Six hundred Dokeys from the Knights of Pythias lodge in Houston will join a Bryan July 4 celebration organized by the American Legion. They travel on a special Houston to Bryan train and participate in a patriotic program with a guest speaker and planned entertainment.
Rev. R. E. Day, pastor of the First Baptist Church, returned from McCamey in west Texas where he conducted a ten day revival. About 30 additions to the church were reported and residents of the oil town showed strong interest. He noted wind and sand storms were unfavored, but called Bryan the best place seen lately. Members of the church and Bryan residents welcomed him home.
E. J. Kyle, dean of agriculture of A and M, returned from Washington D C where he attended a conference with deans from California North Dakota Missouri New York Pennsylvania Massachusetts and Georgia to standardize undergraduate curricula for Land Grant Colleges under the U S Bureau of Education. The committee's findings will be shared with colleges nationwide and work is to begin around July 4. En route home he visited his daughter Mrs Walter Baker of Memphis Tennessee who remained there longer.
Cotton futures ranged from 20 to 25 cents per pound with local spot quotes from 19 1/2 to 20 cents per pound based on 1912 figures.
In Houston Powell, a 24 year old black man, was abducted from Jefferson Davis hospital by eight masked men. His body was found on a bridge near Westheimer Road with a rope around his neck and head injuries. Governor Moody ordered three rangers to investigate the lynching as the city council approved a four white and two black committee and a $10,000 budget for expenses.
Corpus Christi may gain a regular air taxi service as a hub between Houston and Brownsville. Lowden C. Doney, vice-president and general manager of South West Air Services, Inc., and Lieut. J. C. Davis toured the city on a reconnoitering expedition to assess the prospects.
G. L. Rail, 50, was fatally injured when he stepped in front of a moving string of box cars at the International Great Northern crossing on Harrisburg road in Houston. He died a little over two hours later at a local hospital.
Edwin Bullock night clerk at the LaSalle Hotel underwent an appendicitis operation at 8 30 this morning and is reported to be doing nicely. He came to work last night and stayed briefly before going home. Friends extend wishes for a speedy recovery.
A Brazos County health nurse outlines four infant and pre school conferences planned for the coming weeks after schools close. The events include gatherings at King's Highway Minter Springs Bryan and Steele's Store with emphasis on registering all births in 1928 under the new vital statistics law.
Houston boasts a bloom unusually large for delegates to the Democratic national convention opening June 26. Thousands of magnolia trees with white and pink blossoms will be in full bloom, some blossoms reaching a foot in diameter or more. Magnolias thrive in the damp Houston climate, flowering from early June to mid July.
In Morgantown West Virginia on June 20 five miners were killed and seven injured when a gas explosion rocked the National mine of the National Fuel Company. All other workers escaped. Initial reports attribute the blast to gas.
For Bryan and vicinity tonight and Thursday expect partly cloudy to cloudy skies with no significant precipitation. Winds light to moderate with mild temperatures.
The American Legion will host a barbecue picnic in Sue Hiaswell Memorial Park on July 4. Meat will be purchased from Fort Worth, partly cooked, packed in fireless containers, and express shipped to Bryan to arrive steaming hot and ready to serve.
