Charley Anderson Sentenced for Bootlegging in Brazos County

In Brazos County District Court Charley Anderson of Beaumont was found guilty of bootlegging after a raid on a Bev Thornton farm whiskey still. The jury sentenced him to one year in the penitentiary. Sheriff Morehead Officers Martin and Franklin led the investigation under Judge W. C. Davis. County Attorney J. G. Minkert prosecuted.

William Scott Chapter D A R of Bryan held Flag Day indoors at the Regent Mrs P M Raysor home on Ursuline Avenue due to rain and heat. The event featured a planned granite boulder tribute on the San Antonio road near Mr. and Mrs. R H Seale’s Benchley home, recognizing the old San Antonio trail through Texas. The Bryan chapter is noted for strong historical programs at monthly meetings.

Charles Sanders the man arrested in Caldwell for murder and assault was brought to Cameron for safekeeping but spirited away as news of a mob approached. The May results show a S C White Leghorn pen owned by Wm Moore of Dayton Texas producing 111 eggs, followed by F C Mullins of Gravis Arkansas with 90 eggs. Chamber of Commerce Discusses Homes and Roads

The Bryan chamber of commerce board met at 10 AM with President Tyler Haswell and Secretary S E Eberstadt presiding. New members were reported by the Finance Committee, and highway issues in Brazos County were reviewed with a plan for a further report. The advertising committee refused endorsements for three parties asking for 600 dollars in Bryan and urged business men to reject questionable ads. Eberstadt said twenty people were located in Bryan last week with five families, and the Building & Loan Association is aiding housing needs but cannot meet demand. he will continue securing homes for newcomers.

Burleson County Negro Indicted in Murder and Rape

District Judge Alexander called a special grand jury in Caldwell as Charles Sanders, the accused, faced two indictments for murder and rape in the brutal Richardson case. Evidence details describe Mr Richardson beaten to death with a cedar club and his daughter Ella Richardson gravely injured, with two Bohemian girls awakening to the scene. Sanders was jailed in Cameron after capture. Miss Richardson remained in critical condition.
