James Carlisle Drowns in Sandy Creek

James L. Carlisle age 23 of Brenham drowned while swimming with friends in Sandy Creek. He went under briefly and died after being pulled from the water. He is survived by his father J. D. Carlisle and other relatives. Funeral services set for Wednesday with Rev. L Denning of Houston officiating.

Two Negroes Electrocuted for Double Murders in Arkansas

In LITTLE ROCK on June 9 Willie Martin, a black man, was executed at the state penitentiary for the murder of Mrs Lena Blevins with his family present as witnesses. Albert Jones, another black man, was also electrocuted for the murder of a black woman.

Lightfoot Home Damaged By Fire In Bryan

A fire badly damaged the home of Mrs. R O Allen occupied by Director E A Lightfoot and family. Judging Contests Planned for Arlington July 1

Patrolman Wounded in End of Night of Drunken Revelry

In Picher Oklahoma on June 9 Lee Flournoy and Charles Mayes, labeled police characters, were killed as Deputy Sheriff M L Woolsey and Officer William Schmoothbach fatally shot them. Patrolman Grover McCleary was critically wounded during the gun fight as he attempted to aid others. The incident ended a night of drunken revelry and attempted town shootings.

Walton Receives Honorary Doctor of Laws at A and M College

Three Die in Cottage Fire Killing Father and Daughters

In Herris on June 9 James Stumm and his two daughters aged 11 and 8 were burned to death when their cottage burned down. Mrs. Stumm suffered serious burns and the two boys were severely burned as the blaze consumed their home.
