Bryans Sail For Havana After Prolonged New Orleans Stay

Mr and Mrs Travis B Bryan leave New Orleans for Havana Cuba after a lengthy visit extended by the seamen strike. They were guests at the Grunewald Hotel and honored with dinners at the County Club Yacht Club and University Club before sailing Saturday noon for several weeks on the island. Death of Mrs. Mary A. Bethany 96 Pioneer Texan

Mrs. Mary A. Bethany dies at Temple on Thursday morning at age 96. Born February 20, 1825 in Alabama, she was a pioneer Texan who came to Austin county with the Austin colonists and supported family, church, and state. Her grandchildren Mr. and Mrs. C. M. Boy Scouts Begin Annual Week Long Hike to Grand Lake

The Boy Scouts left Tuesday for a week long hike to Grand Lake in the Piney Woods south of Conroe. About fifteen boys, led by Scoutmaster Mr. Wyman and acting assistant G. D. Markworth, anticipate renewing ties with veterans who joined two years ago.

Detour Planned on King Trail Highway in County

A detour for the King trail highway in the southern county is laid out by D White County Engineer Horace Boyett Eberstadt and S W Adams. The 1.5 mile concrete stretch to complete the highway runs north of the detour and reconnects at the Navasota River bridge four miles north of Navasota. The route adds about half a mile to the Bryan to Navasota trip.

Beason Offers Prizes to Spur School Efforts

County Agent and Mrs C L Bean present prizes to top students as incentive. Elliott Beason offers five dollars to the student leading in school and a heifer to the top girl, while Pili ranks highest with 99, Emma among the fourth graders close behind at 98. Remains of J W Hunnicutt Laid to Rest

Funeral services for Joe W Hunnicutt were held at five pm at the residence of his brother Dick Hunnicutt. Dr John A Held of First Baptist Church officiated. Active pallbearers included Darwin Cloud Leona Moorehead Horace Dansby Sam Buchanan and J N Conyers of Marlin. Interment followed at City Cemetery.
