Americans advance through Chatelet forest and Epieds

On July 24 the Franco American line north of Chateau-Thierry pushed the Germans from most of Chatelet forest and moved beyond Epieds. American cavalry operated north of Chateau-Thierry as the Germans offered stiff resistance but could not halt the Allied advance.

Giant Justicia torpedoed and sunk with minimal loss

A British claim says the giant 52 000 ton liner Justicia formerly the Dutch Statendam was torpedoed and sunk off an Irish port. Crews of 600 with 11 dead and 400 landed. The ship carried 8000 troops and reportedly fought the submarine for 24 hours with no passenger fatalities.
