Tabor Churches Plan Joint Revival After R L Brown Returns

The Alexander Methodist and Cottonwood Baptist churches in Tabor agreed to a union revival starting the second Sunday in July for two weeks. The first week features Methodist preaching and the second Baptist, with morning services alternated between churches. Rev. Ferguson Visits Bryan Brothers and Tours City Paving

L. H. Ferguson of Dallas visiting Bryan over the weekend with wife and daughter Josephine. He is assistant treasurer of American Paint & Supply Company and spent days with brothers Judge H. Ferguson and County Tax Collector J. Marion Ferguson. Ferguson praised Bryan’s paving and called it the biggest, best town between Corsicana and Houston.

President Fuller Leads Lions Club Officers and Committees

At the Bryan Lions Club luncheon on July 20 President F D Fuller named committees for the coming year. The group backed boys and girls club work with ice cream for a July 22 court house meeting and urged more use of Nedbalek Orchestra for events. W E Farmer local supervisor of Western Public Service Company and his son Billie attended Bastrop county Old Settlers Meeting at Paige with Mr and Mrs J L Farmer of Mullin. Farmers are pioneer Bastrop settlers. grandfather first white settler between Brenham and Bastrop. En route, Farmer visited the 1855 live oak log homestead still well preserved.

Mrs. Foster Hosts Circle Five at River Oaks Plantation

Chicken Pox Virus Prepared by Texas A and M Doctor

Dr J C Dunn associate professor at A and M College of Texas prepared the annual supply of chicken pox virus to inoculate about 5000 chickens. The remedy weighs over a pound and will be sold for 2 cents per dose to poultry breeders in the state, correcting a prior $11,000 price error.

Revival Meet at Carnegie Library Opens August First

A revival at Carnegie Library opens Sunday August 1 with Rev. E. H. Garner of Enloe conducting. The first service is 3:00 p.m. and an 8:00 p.m. service follows. Daily through the week there are 11:00 a.m. and 8:00 p.m. services. The themes are Salvation and Service inviting all Christians to attend. Reverend Garner is the brother of the late W. H. Garner of Steep Hollow and uncle of Miss Cora Garner.

Catholics Rally to Top High School in Tight Baseball Tilt

At Allen Field on Tuesday evening the cellar Catholics upset the high school 3 to 2 in a close game. Both pitchers excelled, few hits were recorded, and the result drops the high school into a near tie with the Methodists while the Catholics gain a slight advance from last place.

Death of Rev R L Browns Mother in Rennett NC

The telegramed news reports Rev R L Brown’s mother Mrs W R Brown died Monday night at the family home in Rennett North Carolina. Funeral services were held there with interment in the family burial grounds. Rev Brown arrived Thursday morning after being summoned by a message that she could not live until his arrival. The Eastern Star Bryan chapter, of which he and his wife are leaders, sent sympathy and flowers.

Revival closes at Reliance Baptist Church with baptisms

The Reliance revival meeting ended last Sunday at the Reliance Baptist Church with two baptism candidates and one by statement. Rev A C Bracewell and Rev J W Rawls preached and much good was reported. Mrs J C Merka left for Goose Creek to be by her husband’s bedside after learning he was seriously hurt in the oil refinery. A singing school will start at Reliance Church on Monday July 26 with Prof George Jones teaching. Community members are urged to attend.

Secretary S. E. Eberstadt Visits Beckville Texas Chamber Plan

Secretary S. E. Eberstadt returned from a business trip to Beckville, East Texas, met by local officials and a luncheon reception. He addressed 100 merchants on Chamber of Commerce needs, spoke to 2,000 at a singing convention, and urged rural community and terracing efforts. Beckville plans to form a Chamber of Commerce and adopt Bryan plans for advertising. He noted good East Texas roads, a swift Trinity River, and a large cotton crop on the Murray plantation.
