Inoculation Work Saves Texas Cattle Economy and Breeders

The Texas Agricultural Experiment Station reports inoculating between 350 and 400 head of pure bred cattle against Texas fever this season with only one death. Since Dr. Mark Francis introduced the cure, mortality from fever under importation has dropped from 95 percent to under 8 percent. The program expands to dairy cattle from several states and includes support from Chambers of Commerce, though funds and facilities remain tight as federal aid ends. The station seeks $12,010 for 1917-18 and $11,010 for 1918-19 for sheds and equipment, with further $2,500 requests for anthrax labs and vac cine work.
