Hodges Dies at Millican After Illness

E. T. Hodges, long time resident of Millican area, died Sunday night after several days of illness. About 55, he was a Mason and Woodman of the World member. Survived by wife Lula Mills Hodges, four children Gerald Hodges Dickson Ruth Hodges Lee Hodges, one brother Garney Hodges, and two sisters Mrs. J. F. Eaves Galveston and Mrs. Marcellus Tolson San Angelo. Burial held at Millican cemetery this afternoon under Masonic rites.

Edgworth Webb visits from Hearne to show parents support

Edgworth Webb of the state department of agriculture came down from Hearne Saturday afternoon for a short visit to his parents. Rev J J Pipkin returned from Linton in south Texas where he was in the Buckner Orphans Home drive. Misses Mary and Annie Kosh return to Hempstead after visiting in the city. Charles Vesmirovsky Jr returns to Ellington field after visiting his parents Willie Turek leaves to rejoin the battleship Minnesota. he is a band member. Miss Elizabeth Simpson leaves for Spring Valley New York after visiting sister Cornelia Simpson. Mrs Edith Van Moore of Asheville N C visiting sister Mrs T K Lawrence travels to Dallas for a short visit then will return.

Wreck Traffic Passes Through Hammond En Route to Houston

A damaged equipment train moved through Hammond at 11 o’clock bound for Houston shops. Several cars and baggage cars showed little damage, but one car lost its roof. wheels, trucks, and other parts rode on flat cars. The train did not stop.

Permanent aviation landing site eyed by Bryan club

Secretary Eberstadt of the Bryan business club and Lieutenant McMennemy of the cross country flying corps discuss a permanent aviation landing site near the interurban lines college road and oil stations. A temporary site south of A and M College was used last week for student aviators and may be replaced by a permanent location to serve Houston to Waco flyers.

Pink Boll Worm Zones Declared by Governor Hobby

Governor Hobby declared two pink boll worm zones restricting cotton shipment and ordering destruction of infested plants. Zone one centers on the Planters' oil mill at Hearne within three miles, zone two covers parts of southeast Texas including Chambers and Jefferson counties and most of Galveston county outside Galveston island. The order is effective immediately and does not ban growing cotton in the zones.

Millican district good roads bond election results

Returns canvassed by county commissioners show 63 votes for and seven against the Millican district good roads bond proposition from December 20. Bonds will be offered for sale though bond market conditions may cause sale difficulty and potential contract delays.

Landing Station Established Near A and M College

An aviation station about a mile south of the A and M college campus was set up. Lieutenant McQuillen from Ellington field marked the landing site with white canvas for student aviators. It will serve as a permanent student landing and flight terminus, chosen for accessibility to the college and relative public inaccessibility.

Roosevelt a Kaiser agent says Senator Stone in Senate

Mrs. Catherine Mendola Dies in Houston and Is Buried Here

Mrs. Catherine Mendola died in Houston at 3 25 p m and was brought here by train for burial at City cemetery after funeral at St Joseph Catholic Church. She lived with daughter Mrs A J Fickessen in Houston and previously with daughter Mrs Peter Guiffree in Dallas. Her son Lawrence Mendola and daughter Mrs W C Boyett reside here. Active pallbearers included J B Priddy David Reid and G R Wicker.
