Texans urged to amend homestead law to ease farm loans

A Houston conference on January 9 1919 formed a committee urging a constitutional amendment to allow rural homesteads to secure loans. The plan would permit joint lien by owner and spouse for loans up to six percent interest over at least twenty years with five year prepayment. It would require an affidavit on record, promote farm development, and supporters from state farming groups urged passage to enable land purchases improvements equipment and livestock.
