Who Is To Blame For High Beef Prices
A Houston Post critique argues consumers pay high prices for meat and produce while farmers receive low returns. It cites a Hopkins County beef selling in Chicago for 80 dollars with the consumer paying 2875 dollars for the carcass, a four cent head of lettuce at Corpus Christi selling for 1.60, and a San Augustine tomato crate netting 35 cents to produce but 35 dollars to the consumer. The piece says many urban residents lay tribute on producers and laments the farming sector's hardship.
