The Thirty sixth Infantry largely made of Texans suffered heavy losses near St Etienne France last October after a German spy betrayed them two hours after attack began. A German officer’s body carried orders of the 141st Infantry. Lieutenant Herbert Ogden and Captain Ira Ogden linked to the casualty report.

Mad dog frightens Main Street before fatal ending

A vicious mad dog caused a scene on Main Street as several men and a small dog fought it off. Charley Holmes was bitten above the shoe and sent to the Pasteur Institute in Austin for treatment. Walter Holmes took the dog's head for examination in Austin.

Buchanan receives Croix de Guerre for bravery in WWI

Mr and Mrs M G Buchanan of Harvey received word from the War Department that their son Captain D L Buchanan was wounded a second time in action. A Christmas letter from Belgium said he had recovered and rejoined his regiment en route to Germany with the occupation army. The department also advised he was recommended for the Croix de Guerre, a first for a Brazos County youth.

Marsh Mitchell of Wheelock Dies After Long Life

Marsh Mitchell a prominent Wheelock merchant farmer stockman and banker in Brazos county died Tuesday at 3 30 p m. Born near Springfield Limestone county on March 19 1859 he moved to Bryan in 1868 and to Wheelock in 1881. He was part of the firm Mitchell Bros with Henry John and Kate Mitchell running large mercantile operations at Wheelock and Franklin.
