Mr and Mrs N F Lockerd spent the weekend in Hearne as guests of their niece Miss Edna Lane and Mr and Mrs Young. Mrs J B Stevenson Sr and her daughter Miss Maude Stevenson drove from Houston for a Sunday visit with Mr and Mrs Brooks Stevenson Jr. Maude returned to Houston Sunday afternoon while Stevenson Sr stayed in Bryan to purchase a new home at 1415 West Alabama Houston and reside there permanently. James Luther Dunn of Corsicana was named principal candidate for the U S Naval Academy entrance exam by Texas Representative Joseph W Bailey Jr. Other Bailey picks include James Nipper of San Antonio and Raymond A Moore of Bryan as alternates. Dunn aims for the July class. David Gibson Sherrard of Austin was named principal candidate for the West Point exam with Lloyd Russell of Waco and James W Williams of Farmersville as second alternates.
Charles Mitchell, a negro, was convicted of burglarizing the Montgomery Ward store and received two years in state prison on each of two counts. Cliff Ellis earned a four year suspended term for the Texas A and M barracks burglary. Jesse Garcia was given a five year suspended sentence for felony theft.
Gen Hugh Johnson unveils a twelve point program to revise NRA codes aiming for a presidential mandate. The plan calls for wage and hour uniformity, anti monopoly measures, protecting small businesses, improved compliance, and broader labor and consumer representation.

Huntsville will host the Eighth annual East Texas Chamber of Commerce birthday party on March 2. Speaker M J Norrell will present Ninety Eight Years Later tracing Texas growth through the republic Confederacy and United States. Address set for Huntsville armory after daytime events.
The Bryan and Brazos County Chamber of Commerce hosts a Spring Style Show with a parade of new cars and home equipment on 25th Street. After the 2 PM parade, exhibits will run for the rest of the day and evening. Committees handle stage lighting dressing rooms street plans and a loudspeaker system with ongoing assignments for dog parade entries and judges.
President Roosevelt signed the 40 million dollar crop production loan bill stating it should be the last of its kind. He noted the aid helps farmers unable to qualify for Production Credit loans and urged securing loans from the permanent production credit association when possible.

COLLEGE STATION Feb 24 Farmers whose five year average cotton acreage exceeded their 1982 and 1933 plantings were allowed to base their rental contracts on the five year average when it raised 1934 acreage above 1933. George E Adams special agent of the cotton campaign announced. He advised county agents and review boards of this interpretation of the contract.
Claude Williams sustained a broken jaw and extensive bruises when a truck being unloaded at the Southern Pacific freight station struck him. He, with Hall Chevrolet Company workers, was unloading autos and trucks using a chain that released from the brake, causing the impact.
Brazos county relief committee elected officers at a Monday meeting to organize and discuss projects under the CWA. R G Williams was reelected chairman and James Sullivan secretary. Henry Kurten and Guy Neeley also attended.
E R Alexander professor of Agricultural Education at A and M College presented a talk to the Bryan Lions at their noon meeting. He outlined four questions about the October 1929 economic depression, its prevention, funding of relief programs, and the government's role in employment.

Miss Winnie Harris of Stephen F. Austin high school leads home economics students in a nationwide essay contest on meat and the livestock industry. Submissions are due by March 15 with state district and national winners chosen by prominent women in home economics. last year saw 46 states represented and champion Reva Lincoln of Athens, Pennsylvania.
A burglary at the George C. Chance plantation store in Burleson County was reported to Brazos County officers. Constable Horace Reed investigated but found no suspects. Entry was gained by breaking a window with a ladder. cash, dry goods, and clothing were stolen, with losses still unestimated.
The Bryan police department reports a recently acquired riot gun that fires a tear gas bomb with a 125 yard range and a six second time fuse. A smaller close quarters projectile is included, and a machine gun order has arrived with a delivery expected soon. Mayor N A Stewart and officers testified to its effectiveness after a demonstration.
Dr. L O Wilkerson spoke at the Young Woman's Association of the College Avenue Baptist church meeting on alcohol's impact. The gathering moved to 6 30 pm for a Wiener roast hosted by the Baptist Training Service.
The plant exchange organized by Mrs. W. B. Cline at the Farmers Market drew cooperation from Bryan and College Station women and Brazos County rural communities. Despite bad weather hindering turnout, a fine assortment of young plants was contributed and the exchange was deemed successful. Mrs. Cline urges everyone to bring plants again this and next Saturday for continued beautification of area highways.
Whitey Walker Blackie Thompson and Ray Patterson face robbery with firearms charges connected to the Caldwell Jewelry Store theft on December 14 The trial is set for March 7 in Brazos county district court under Judge W C Davis A special jury of 100 has been summoned and a severance likely.
Allen Farm owner Jno D Rogers of Navasota operates a Brazos county breeding farm famed for Acala cotton seed. He recently shipped 4400 pounds to Istanbul via New York for planting by the Turkish government. Other shipments went to Algiers and Teheran, showing frequent foreign trade.
The third and fourth consignments of cotton option checks were received by County Agent C. L. Benson on Tuesday. The total of these checks is 36063.54 dollars. The first and second consignments were about 40000 dollars and about 20000 dollars remain. The county total will be near 100000 dollars.
Ross Wolfe a pecan authority told Brady West Texas growers that Texas was the cradle of pecan culture. He cited fossils showing pecans on Texas soil at least 80 million years old and noted two petrified kernels as large as modern paper shell pecans from near Corsicana.
