Negro Kills Man Assaults Companion In Poultry Fire

At Christmas time a fire swept Allen Smith business poultry department causing several thousand dollars in loss. Fire started when gas engine torch exploded. engineer Jim Godwin was burned while trying to control flames. 700 to 800 live chickens perished or suffocated. two large motors and other stock lost. Insurance covers items but impact remains heavy. Smith vows to continue turkey and chicken business.

Sheriff Morehead leads raid at college hall

Sheriff L. E. Morehead aided by Night Sergeant Platt and Hills Wilson raided a college basement where a game was in progress. Porter Ellis Jenkins and five other colored men were arrested on liquor charges and jailed or to appear for trial. those named are Dunlel Thornton Sidney McWilliams Joe Williams Joe Pierce and Dan Tunson.

Union services through Christmas at A and M College

College Station Texas December 26. A union Sunday school and combined church service were held December 23 and will be held December 30 in the Y M C A chapel. Reverend W H Matthews announced the schedule.

Joseph Tomastillo aged 45 known as Kid Thomas owner of The White Poodle cabaret in Greenwich Village was shot and killed as he left an apartment house. The assailant fled and police suspect a gamblers feud sparked the fatal shooting.

Intermediates of First Baptist Aid Mexican Baptists

Under Mrs. Sam Hunter the Intermediates of the First Baptist church Sunday school provided a Christmas tree for the Mexican Baptist church and delivered fifty five presents and fifty five bags of candy and fruit. They also donated clothing to needy Mexican families. Rev. Wm. Ibarra, the missionary serving Mexican communities, is praised for his work in Bryan Hearne Navasota Cameron Temple and other towns and for training Mexican children toward better citizenship and faith.

Funeral Rites Held for Jno Rezzaffe at StAnthony's Church

Jno Rezzaffe 46 died at his uncle’s home near Bryan of heart disease while visiting for a Christmas homecoming. An Italian native, he lived in Brazos county 14 years and is survived by five sons, a brother and two sisters. Funeral and high mass were conducted at St Anthony's church with burial in the Catholic cemetery.

Christmas Tragedies After Fireworks Fatal for Two Children

In Pensacola on December 26, 13 month old James Burleson and 18 month old Bell Vann died after biting devices resembling chocolate candy that were fireworks. A third child is hospitalized in serious condition from the same incident.

Christmas Eve Program at First Baptist Church

The Sunday school held a large Christmas Eve program with a decorated tree and many gifts. The group remembered the poor and orphans contributing over four hundred dollars and sending presents and cats to Buckner Orphans Home in Dallas.

Arizona athlete shot dead in Miami assault

Ted Grosh of the University of Arizona was killed in Miami while his companion Miss Maxine McNelly of Globe was left in serious condition after a shooting and assault by a Black attacker. Globe and Miami officers are seeking the suspect.

Houston Colored High Team Defeats Bryan 7 to 0

In muddy conditions Houston colored high School beat Bryan 7 to 0 in the opening minute and a half. A 35 yard breakout by a Houston runner set the score. Chamber official leaves Bryan for Christmas visit

Changes Made in the State Dipping Laws

From Austin Texas December 27 Governor Pat M Neff has signed new rules changing livestock sanitation. Cattle may move to market on one dipping if tick free and only dipping of moved cattle required. Bedias District Passes Good Roads Bonds in Grimes

Bedias District in Grimes County near the Navasot River and adjacent to Brazos County voted 244 to 24 to approve good roads bonds. Iola had earlier voted four to one in favor. The action was reported by W. W. Williamson of Bedias in a letter to his son in Bryan and College.

Two cars of the Sunshine Special westbound on the Texas and Pacific fell into a ditch near Toyah. No injuries reported and traffic was delayed for several hours as reports came in from Sweetwater on December 26.

Rotary Club Behind Good Roads Program

The Bryan Rotary club met at noon with weak attendance due to Christmas travels. The program themed The Blessings of 1923 featured talks by W. S. Barron and others, praising Bryan Brazos county business strength in 1923 and optimism for 1924. Several thousand residents gathered Monday night as Santa Claus arrived by airplane atop the Parker Astin Hardware Building.
