State Highway Commission awarded contracts totaling 32 707 839.99 for 1929 covering 3 144.2 miles including 1 767 miles of grading and drainage 216 miles of gravel and surfacing 145 miles of bituminous top roads and 401 miles of surface treatment. Construction inaugurated since February 1927 brings total program to 70 238 564.61. Maintenance spending for 1929 expected between eight and nine million dollars. total outlay for maintenance or contracts let about 41 to 42 million by year end.
