Cemetery Association Forms New Organization in Bryan

The Bryan Cemetery Association met at the Carnegie Library to organize as a permanent body with Geo. A. Adams as president and S. E. Eberstadt as secretary. A 1 dollar dues base and goal of 1000 members were set, with a 236-member start and committees to be named. Members listed include many Bryan residents and local business names.

Oil boom hits Groesbeck as Humphries lease shakes land prices

Groesbeck Texas, December 8. News of a 700 acre lease to Humphries Petroleum for 140000 and 500 to 1200 acre lots leased around Groesbeck sparks an oil frenzy. Local landowners rush to sell at high prices as rigs head in from San Antonio and giants like Humphries and geologists DeVore and Foster arrive. The town, with gas wells since 1914, braces for a drilling surge and continued boom in a center of Limestone County.

Sunday Movies and Baseball Hit as Illegal in Texas

Austin, Dec. 8. Sunday moving picture shows and Sunday baseball where admission fees are charged are illegal in Texas, held in effect today by the Texas court of criminal appeals. J. J. Hegman was fined $20 in Austin for operating a motion picture show on Sunday. Judge W. L. Davidson dissented, saying the pictured show could not be classed as amusement.

Cotton ginning totals rise to 30 million by December 1

Census Bureau data show cotton ginnings through December 1 reached 30,144,921 running bales, with 191,687 American and Egyptian and 1,111 Sea Island bales. Comparatively, December 1 last year stood at 8,844,368 bales, including 99,668 round bales and 23,725 American-Egyptian. Arkansas reported 812,000 and Texas 8,423,111 bales.

Three Waco Women Appointed to County Grand Jury

Waco Texas December 8 three women Mrs W E Spell Mrs E L Humphreys and Miss Kyle Pace are named to the Mc Lennan county grand jury to convene January 3 by Judge Richard I Munroe marking a historic first in the county and possibly the state.
