Bailey Club Organized to Support Bailey in Texas Governor Race

A Bryan meeting organized a Bailey Club for Brazos County to back former Senator Bailey in the second primary on August 28. M. E. Wallace was elected temporary and later permanent chairman with J. S. Doane as secretary. About 66 attendees pledged to form chapters across the county and invite Bailey to Bryan for a campaign address.

The Texas Chamber of Commerce plans an extensive advertising campaign for Texas resources with the Texas Farm Boy Special leaving A. and M. College on August 7 and traveling through many states. A descriptive booklet will be distributed along the route. A publicity man will accompany the train to brief press along the way. Several Texas newspapers will send correspondents to promote Texas and report back. The first stop will be Bryan on August 7 at 12 20 p m.

Paris to buy land to protect Romagne cemetery

Paris reports the United States Army Graves Registration Service asks France to purchase the slope facing Romagne cemetery and the crest of the hill, plus side plots, to shield the graveyard of more than 30,000 American soldiers. The area will be landscaped with trees after interments move to the United States next fall.

Two Aviators Die in Flaming Movie Stunt Crash

Locklear piloted the plane and Elliott ignited the fireworks as they climbed to 10,000 feet then dove in a flaming nose dive. Movie cameras captured the descent but Locklear failed to pull up in time, crashing at about 2,000 feet with both occupants killed.

Wheat price makes big trip in Chicago trading

Chicago on August 4 saw a dramatic wheat price swing as traders dumped futures then bought back strong. Early declines of up to thirteen cents gave December $2.16 to $2.21 and March $2.21, with a later rebound of as much as eleven cents. Losses were largely recovered as millers and Canadian crop reports influenced the market, closing near yesterday’s levels with December at $2.29 to $2.30 and March at $2.32.

Lewis Orders Miners to Return to Work

President Lewis of the United Mine Workers telegraphed thirty three locals in Kansas to return to work and end the strike. About three thousand eight hundred miners were striking at thirty three mines in Kansas.

Texas Shorthorn Breeders Create Fort Worth Headquarters

At a special meeting in Fort Worth on Tuesday the Texas Shorthorn Breeders association voted to establish a permanent headquarters in the city with a salaried secretary in charge. John Burns of College Station was chosen secretary and will assume duties immediately. President M. L. Smiley of Paris presided.

Eight University of Texas graduates join the Sul Ross Normal at Alpine for 1920-21. Six become department heads including English Latin Spanish home economics and physical training. Librarian and secretary roles filled by UT alums. five graduates were Phi Beta Kappa members.

Free Girl Found With Diamond King Following Death

Chicago August 4 Samuel T. A. Loftis head of his namesake jewelry house died in his apartment from injuries after a violent fall. Ruth Wood a 25 year old bookkeeper and Roy Shayne his fiancé were released after the inquest. Wood testified Loftis offered to buy and return a business and gave her diamonds watch rings and a jeweled knife in exchange for herself. She kept the items and fled when Loftis collapsed.
