Italians gathered in Columbia Hall for a mass meeting at 2 p m to discuss the Liberty loan and subscribe. Subscriptions totaling 10 200 were raised with bank representatives present to close deals on the spot. The county committee led by Judge Maloney and Father Desimone organized the effort with about 200 attendees and a long list of donors including Palermo Brothers Saladiner and many Patronellas.

Neal Ritchie 25, son of Mr. and Mrs. A. B. Ritchie of the Dunn place near Wheelock, died at Camp Sheridan Montgomery Alabama from acute lobar pneumonia while en route from Camp Travis. His body was sent home for burial at Smetana cemetery with Rev. Dr. E W Solomon officiating. he was one of three Ritchie brothers entering the army.
