Bryan High School dominant at A and M College District No 24 events. Debaters James Pipkin and Edwin Jancik beat Sealy to send both Bryan teams to Austin for League of Nations debate. Track results crown Caldwell in Class A and A and M Consolidated in Class B with multiple event wins and relay success.

Lions Drive Partners With Parents and Teachers at Bryan High

The Bryan Lions Club joins with the Parent Teachers Association to secure state required books for Bryan High School. Members spoke to church groups and clubs across several services and venues outlining the drive and its schedule. The campaign continues with planned talks by Tom Suber and Pat Newton and a community drive set for April 23 with details to follow.

Tame coyote brought home by Berg er and Zolkosky

Will Berger and Pete Zolkosky drove to Bremond for a weekend visit and returned with a tame full grown coyote kept on a leash. The animal, captured in Alabama, was described as friendly and accustomed to people. It attracted attention near C. G. Walker’s store by the Eagle office and the nearby chicken coops.

Heavy Rain Deluges Sunday Across City and Bryan Areas

Midday Sunday rain lasted from about 11 to 2 with a light drizzle afterward, amounting to .45 inches on the government gauge at Geo. A. Adams Insurance Agency. Bryan area sections near Wellborn and Millican reported heavier rainfall that could have set records if documented.

Two Injured Hit by Auto in City Street

Miss Juanita Gandy and Es Cort Selden Ellis are knocked down by a car, suffering injuries. Police report the incident occurred on a city street during evening hours.

Near-accident on South Bryan Street injures two youths

Seldon Ellis and Miss Juanita Gandy were struck by an automobile driven by S C Woitten on South Bryan Street while returning from the B Y P U at First Baptist church. The vehicle had no lights. They were taken to Bryan Hospital with deep cuts and bruises but no broken bones and were later sent home to recover.

Washington April 16 George Storck a Department of Justice accountant testified as the first witness before the Senate Daugherty investigating Committee. Cars Collide at College Corner. Thomas Accepts Responsibility

A collision occurred Tuesday noon at College Avenue and Twenty-Sixth Street when a car driven by W R Thomas manager of The Fair collided with Mrs Ben Knox's vehicle. No injuries reported and damages were to the Knox car. Thomas will repair damages and make amends.

Bryan Delegates Return From Baptist Convention in Wichita Falls

J. M. Dunn T. H. Haltom Miss Helen Kerr Parks and Dr. Jno A Held returned noon Friday from Wichita Falls after attending the Baptist organized Bible Class Convention noted as the greatest session in Texas so far. Delegations from Tyler Burkburnett joined with local musicians accompanying the event. The program was praised as possibly the best at any convention yet held.

Methodist Missionary Society Group Four Meets at Crenshaw Home

Group No 4 of the Methodist Missionary Society met Tuesday afternoon at Mrs E W Crenshaws home as Monday meeting was postponed. Attendance small but interest good. Mrs Oak McKenzie led a lesson from The Child and Americas Future on amusements and recreation. A feature was a debate on whether honesty is best taught by lecture or games with Mrs M R Bentley affirming and Mrs E W Crenshaw defending the negative.

Domestic Science Luncheon Delights School Board Guests

Miss Jewel Williamson and her East Side School domestic science class hosted a luncheon for the school board in the school’s furnished apartment. The menu featured fruit cocktail veal cutlets Delmonico potatoes creamed carrots hot biscuits etc. Easter place cards honored board members and Superintendent Madison Hall as the board inspected and formally accepted the remodeled building.

Forty Candidates Initiated Into Woodmen of the World

The Woodmen of the World local chapter held a Friday night initiation at the lodge hall with about 75 present. J G Williams from Omaha spoke with talks by local officers Council Commander J W Hamilton and others. Walter Wipprecht and Arthur Ingenhuett left Bryan by auto at an early hour this morning for West Texas. Ingenhuett visits his parents in Comfort while Wipprecht attends a state Sons of Herman meeting in Fredericksburg as Bryan’s representative. They expect to return by the end of next week.

Navy recruiting unit visits Bryan to seek enlistments

Co. E Manda a pharmacist’s mate first class and W W Roe a watertender first class of the U S Navy are in Bryan with a Navy truck from Houston to promote life in the service and enlistments. New men go to San Diego California and re-enlisted personnel to Norfolk Virginia. They will operate from the Bryan post office over Sunday and Monday.

Governor Neff to Dedicate Memorial Monument at A and M College

Governor Pat M. Neff will deliver the dedicatory address at the unveiling of a war memorial monument at the Agricultural and Mechanical College of Texas. The event on April 21 includes roll call, cadet officer commissions, a 4:30 pm cadet review, and an 8 pm reception in Sbisa Hall.

Robbery at Cawthorn Postoffice Store

The Cawthorn postoffice store was robbed Thursday night. About $10 in cash and a 38-40 Colt pistol were taken from the drawer. Sheriff’s deputies, led by Charley Saxon, are investigating with limited details released.

Caldwell Woman Falls and Breaks Both Arms

Caldwell, Apr 12. Mrs. H. W. Bates suffered fractures of both arms when she fell down the steps at her residence. One bone in the right arm and both bones in the left were broken.

W S Howell stockman was held up at 2 a m near his Crockett home and robbed of 1800 in bills from mule and horse sales proceeds. No arrests have been made.

Father Barra Ends Texas Visit Returns to Philadelphia

Rev. Thomas Barra of Philadelphia has completed a six week stay in Bryan where he served as temporary pastor at St. Anthony's church during Rev. Basil Bravi's absence. He will head to Chicago then return to Philadelphia carrying plans to improve the Italian colony in Brazos County. Barra, head of a Philadelphia church and school, praised Bryan's progress and made many friends among locals and other denominations.

Closing Exercises at Leonard School on Friday April 11

Leonard School near Bryan on Finn-Feather Club Road held closing exercises marking a successful term. Forty five pupils enrolled, thirty six on register, with thirty promoted. Easter egg hunt featured 300 eggs and four prize baskets.

Ten Houses Wrecked by Harvey Wind in Local Community

A heavy rainstorm with high winds near Bryan caused extensive damage in the Harvey area. Amon Williams reports about ten tenant houses wrecked, a derrick and tool house blown down, and widespread destruction on farms including C I Eden and J D Goen.
