Women Plan Petition Day Ahead of May Suffrage Push

Austin leaders outlined Petition Day for the Saturday before May 24. Block chairmen will circulate a petition urging men to support woman suffrage. Mrs Minnie Fisher Cunningham says the goal is to enlist 60 percent of voters and rebut claims that women do not want to vote.

Lloyd George: No peace approaches from Russia presented

London reporting on April 16 states Prime Minister Lloyd George answered Labor leader John R. Clynes that no peace approaches had been received from the Russian government. He said military intervention in Russia would be folly and that recognition of Russia had never been proposed or discussed.

College 10 Hold Victory Loan Meet

The College Victory loan drive will start April 21. A Community Council meeting at the Y chapel Sunday at 3:30 will feature talks by Id. Farmers Fall to Texas Longhorns in Lopsided Loss

U C Orders Sub Chasers 10 Alaska

Four submarine chasers are ordered to Alaskan waters under the Great Lakes naval training force to assist shipping and enforce law. They leave Puget Sound for Juneau and will operate until navigation closes, with fish wardens aboard and coordination with commerce treasury and interior departments. Coast guard cutters Ungala and Bear will patrol Alaska from April 20 to October 1. College Chess Club Formed At YMCA With Fourteen Members

Paddock to Hold Public Hearings on Pink Boll Worm

State entomologist F B Paddock sails tonight for Hearne where Thursday at 10 o'clock he and other pink boll worm commission members will hold a public hearing in the community first to report the pest in Texas in December 1917. He will go to Houston after Hearne for a similar hearing Friday morning serving seven counties in the non cotton zone. The Houston hearing may be the final one.
