The People's Column reports Bryan hosts the Ninth District PTA convention with engaging programs and delegates. A circus also arrives in the city, drawing both children and elders to enjoy wild animals and attractions despite the off season.
Invitations from Mr. and Mrs. James Hadley Webb announce the marriage of Zenobia Webb to Mr. Joseph Allen Myers Junior on Thursday April twenty at nine in the evening at First Methodist Church. Reception at thirty two eleven College Avenue follows. Home after May fifteenth in Birmingham Alabama. Tax deadline April 16 set by City Manager J Bryan Miller. Mrs. P S Park and husband attend Masonic meeting in Houston this week with plans for Beaumont weekend visit.
The Associated Press reports in Washington April 12 that secrecy cloaking the Teapot Dome leasing to Harry Sinclair dominated the conspiracy trial. Prosecutors hear many witnesses in quick succession while duplication slows the case, focusing on Albert Fall’s failure to follow bidding policy and his reticence about Sinclair’s proposal acceptance.
At the Ninth District Parent-Teachers Association convention in College Station four hundred delegates and visitors attended sessions. Highlights included A and M Cadet Corps review, meals at the Mess Hall, and speeches by Dr. Walton and Mr. Hughes on citizenship and rural child challenges.
Local American Chemical Society members will gather Friday in the Physics lecture room at o o'clock. Program includes Refining Sugar in the United States by C F Janis with exhibits of liquors and by products. Janns has firsthand Imperial Sugar Co experiences. Also Chemical Warfare Service Camp by W C Johnson with Edgewood camp insights. Arsenal pictures to be shown. All interested invited.
The Ninth District Parent-Teacher Association opened its convention with a well attended first public program at First Methodist Church. Delegates and visitors heard welcome messages from local officials and district leaders and learned about the movement’s aims in education, home life, and moral development. Easter lily baskets were presented to district president Mrs. R. E. Siecke and state president Mrs. Neyes Darling Smith.
The First Methodist church in Bryan hosts the Rainbow Girls annual church attendance day on Sunday evening April 15 at 8 o clock. All Bryan Assembly members must attend unless hindered. Kathleen Bullard is worthy advisor and M R Bentley is mother advisor with a full advisory board listed.
Miss Lillian Ferguson of the dairy office in the Extension Department at A. and M. College was seriously hurt when her car collided with a traveling salesman's vehicle at Union Hill on the Bryan College road. She suffered several broken ribs and other injuries. Miss Frances Caldwell, accompanying her, received cuts and bruises. Ferguson's car was badly damaged while the other vehicle had minor damage. Ferguson is hospitalized at her brother County Judge H. C. Ferguson's apartment. the traveling man was unhurt.
Mrs R E Smith of this city attends a Methodist conference in Marshall this week and will extend her stay several days to visit friends before returning home Saturday.
Richard Vaughan, editor of the Daily Texan at the University of Texas, filed suit in justice court seeking 19.95 from Texas Student Publications Inc. Vaughan claims the payment is owed, and notes his suspension from the editor position.
P G Gayle former manager of the Metropolitan Barber Shop will head the barber shop of the new LaSalle Hotel. He has lived in Bryan for years and is well known. He invites friends to inspect his new place after the hotel opens.
A bomb exploded before King Manuel inaugurated the Milan fair killing 14 people and injuring 40. The king attended the ceremony and viewed exhibits as scheduled despite the blast.
Austin April 12 A Bryan student Lynwood Boyett is listed among four hundred volunteers actively supporting the University of Texas Union project campaign beginning April 9 and lasting a week with Bryan participants playing a key role.
Seven bodies found in wrecked plane near Kent after cowboys locate wreckage. Victims include Edward Knapp from Detroit Frank Drew from Fort Worth and D M Dawson from Monti Utah. Inquest to determine cause of death to be held here today. Plane was en route from California to Michigan and appears to have been dead several days.
E. R. Bryant came back from the J. C. Penney spring buying convention in Tulsa Oklahoma. He said the meeting was the most successful in the companys history with a wide merchandise selection for the next six months and a feminine softer line in women apparel. He valued idea exchange with other managers and looks forward to passing on styles and value to customers.
John Hughes, an oil operator from Fort Worth, died in Minerals Wells on Thursday, April 12, according to Associated Press reports.

Charles F. Hillier was elected next year’s Rotary president to succeed Oak McKenzie on July 1. Hillier, director of McCulloch-Dansby Funeral Home, has lived in Bryan five years and served as secretary, director, and vice president on Rotary boards. Six directors were elected for the coming year: George A. Adams, Stuart Barron, H. H. Williamson, Charles Hillier, C. L. Benson, and W. H. Darrow. The group heard brief talks from Rev. Bob Self and Rev. M. L. Hollis and noted an upcoming district convention in Harlingen with about a dozen Rotarians attending.
Willie Fisher a Houston negro was electrocuted shortly after midnight at the penitentiary here for the murder of his wife Rosa and was buried in the prison cemetery today He went to his death with prayer on his lips.
Atlanta Municipal Court Judge L. F. McLelland was found with a gunshot wound to the head in his room. He died later at a hospital, with authorities investigating the fatal incident in Atlanta.
Terror struck spectators as the German monoplane Bremen struggled to rise at the Irish Free State airfield. After a slow start and a 900 yard run, it finally lifted at 5:38 a.m. heading toward Mitchell Field New York, a 3000 mile record bid. Forecasters warned of unfavorable weather on the western Atlantic as winds shifted from New England to Newfoundland.

Representatives from Reliance Edge Kurton Harvey Cottonwood Wellborn Rock Prairie College Station and Bryan will attend with music by the College Station Baptist orchestra and special vocal numbers.

Evangelist Bob Self moves revival from Free Baptist church to the big tent to accommodate large crowds. Wednesday services drew strong attendance as Self preached a plain gospel on the Crucifixion of Christ urging truth over easy living. Services held at 10:00 a.m. and 7:30 p.m. with an invitation to worship.
The Bryan Daily Eagle published a 12 page PTA special edition praised for extensive Bryan institutions coverage. Mrs. M. R. Bentley wrote the copy and secured ads with strong local merchant support, producing an edition equivalent to 18 pages in a six column paper.
In Nacogdoches on April 12 G A Stubbefield shot and killed himself and three small children at the family home. Despondency is believed to have caused the incident.
The Bryan Chamber of Commerce hosted delegates at the Ninth District PTA banquet Wednesday night in the new La Salle Hotel. Dr J C Hardy led invocation and J Webb Howell delivered greeting with a scrapbook presentation by Mrs C A Searcy to Mrs E O Biecke.
