Why Bryan Cotton Mill Can Make More Money Than Eastern

Bryan and Brazos county face a profitable chance as Southern mills outpace Eastern mills in growth since 1900. The South gains from lower production and raw material costs, better freight rates, and cheaper labor. The article cites higher capital per spindle and taxes in New England, and notes Southern mills’ direct cotton sourcing and favorable overheads. It urges local invention to boost Bryan’s cotton mill industry.
